Welcome Parents and Students,

My name is Christopher W. and I am a current tutor who is a passionate, patient, and flexible educator and available to help students with their education. I have graduated from two institutions from the University of Bridgeport with a M.A. in Secondary Education and Quinnipiac University with a B.A. in English and a minor in Spanish. I have worked in the public school system for three years and have gained much experience in tutoring and teaching students in middle and high school levels. I have tutored students in Math, English, Spanish, and History respectively. While I am not tutoring or teaching, I continue to find areas of improvement in my teaching methods, tutoring techniques, and lesson plans.

I believe that the heart of learning comes from the relationship between a student and teacher. With this belief, I start my tutoring sessions by understanding and gauging who the student is while observing and assessing their strengths and weaknesses. From there, I am able to create a plan that will put the student in a place of success. My expertise is in English, specifically in reading and writing, but I have years of experience in tutoring students in Math, Spanish, and History. I have taught many novels in the classroom and tutored students in plays, novels, short stories, and numerous poems from the Romantic and Neoclassical Period. I have experience in implementing writing workshops, setting up student portfolios, and creating writing goals to demonstrate student growth over a period of time. In addition, I have tutored in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Spanish I and II, and History - Revolutionary War, Industrial Revolution, Civil War, the Great Depression, and World War I and II.

I am an avid reader; I love to read any book that peaks my interest. Additionally, I am a sports addict – could be an understatement – and follow and participate in football, basketball, soccer, weight lifting, and running. Most importantly, I make time for family, friends, and the community!

I am grateful and blessed if you read this far! If you feel that you want to have a conversation about your needs, please don’t hesitate to email me for an appointment. Thank you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I am a devoted Christian who has been studying the Word for two years. My passion is in learning each book of the Bible. My future plan is to start teaching the Bible at my local church.

Study Skills

I have been in the secondary public school education in the general and special education classrooms. As a tutor, I teach students the proper process to studying and provide them with unique strategies for students. I have taught and modeled study strategies that enhance student test preparations by utilizing reading, speaking, listening, and writing. As a teacher, I have used flashcards, Cornell Notes, and creating practice quizzes with a fundamental focus on sensory learning.
