As a K-6 elementary school teacher with a M.A. in Teaching, I tailor my lessons to meet the individualized needs of my students. After being in an elementary school setting for a full 2 years, I have worked 1:1 and in small groups with English language learners, students with special needs (autism, dyslexia, visual impairment, ADHD), students with emotional and behavioral challenges, gifted and talented students, and students below grade level.
I believe that all students can succeed! I ensure that students are motivated to learn and are engaged by making my lessons fun, hands-on, and meaningful. I use Responsive Classroom techniques when teaching. This approach to teaching promotes positive reinforcement, giving students a choice, giving students responsibility for their learning, and strong parental involvement.
I have an array of content knowledge, and a strong understanding of how to build a foundation for reading, writing, and math skills. I also speak several languages, including Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish, and some Arabic.
The best thing about teaching is seeing young minds blossom after watching my students transfer their knowledge to new contexts. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in the CT public schools for over 2 years and have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD. I have worked with them 1:1 and as students in my classroom. I have learned various techniques and strategies to use with these students in order to ensure that they are learning to their full potential. I can help your child do the same because of my experience!
As a strong supporter of a college education, I can help students find the colleges that fit them best. I can also answer questions, accompany students on tours, how to attain scholarships, how to fill out the FAFSA form, and give them vital information about colleges, based on my experiences. I have guided high school students in choosing a college that is the best fit for them.
I have been cooking for over 9 years at home, making all types of foods and cuisines for my family. Creating a great dish takes love, and an understanding of the methods of cooking. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, I will teach you methods so that you can independently create delicious food.

After tutoring students in Organic Chemistry while in college, it has become one of my favorite subjects! I passed Organic Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry II, and Organic Chemistry Lab during my undergraduate coursework at the University of Connecticut. I am passionate about everything from basic chemistry concepts to unique organic chemical reactions involving carbon- I am ready to teach it all!
I teach phonics as part of the state standards. I like to combine rigid, systematic instruction with fun activities and games so that students can practice phonics skills in a variety of contexts. This ensures that children can learn to read and write at a faster pace.
I have studied for, passed, and tutored for the Praxis I and II exam this past year. This exam requires some specific test taking skills, which I would love to pass on in order to help another individual succeed!
I received a B.A. in Psychology and Pre-Medicine from UConn.
I have worked with students with various types of special needs. This includes students with ADD/ADHD, children on the autism spectrum, students with behavioral and emotional needs, hearing impaired students, and visually impaired students. I believe the key to success for these students is getting to know the child, and being aware of the child's individual needs. This strong relationship will ensure that the teacher can facilitate learning.
As a student in grade school, college, and graduate school, I have learned study habits in order to succeed and more forward. I can provide detailed instruction and practice in what kinds of study habits to develop in order to receive better grades in all subjects!
