My philosophy of teaching is based on a desire to assist students to be academically successful. Therefore, I believe that academic success is a result of collaboration between the student and instructor, and open communication. It also implies that both the instructor and student have a responsibility to each other. The instructor to know the academic materials, know the student's strengths and weaknesses, and provide an individualized academic pathway for the student. The student's responsibilities include being prepared for the tutoring session, interact with the instructor, communicate openly, and ensure that their academic success is a priority for them. The parents or guardians are also an important aspect of academic success by supporting and encouraging the student academically.
My teaching experience is primarily in computer information systems with experience in teaching computer applications. Today's society requires understanding of and ability to use computer applications for personal, school, and work related activities. Also, a fundamental understanding of computer hardware, networking, databases, etc., are important for computer literacy. I also have experience teaching student success courses, which can be described as "first year college seminar" design to prepare students for the transition to higher education and practical life long skills, such as critical thinking and communications.
I sincerely hope that my philosophy of teaching/tutoring is attractive to some of you and your families. I am passionate about teaching and the classroom. Also, that my experience in computer applications and/or student success are areas that you are interested in improving or gaining skills in.
