I have been working as a Para Professional with Mild/Moderate Special Education students for 6 yrs with Douglas County School District. I have taken many extra classes within the district on Behavioral disciplines, dealing with ADHD/ADD and Autism. I have also specialized in Writing,Reading and Math within the elementary school grades. I love to work with these kiddos mainly because I care and want them to succeed in life. Most of the time these children just need some extra time and someone to listen, and talk in a manner they can understand. I find that they do fine in the classroom, but most of the time they only "hear" half of what the teacher says, because they are slow at processing and the teacher at normal speed of talking, it is too fast for these children. I have a resume of many classes the district has offered to keep up with the new Math, and technology. I look forward to working with the kids at their pace. I'm a widow and have nothing but time on my hands, time for your children.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I work for DCSD and have taken all courses the district has given on ADD/ADHD. I have also been trained in the Math programs. Since I work with Mild/Moderate special ed kids I'm very patient and knowledgeable on giving your student the time he deserves.

Aspergers

I also have taken every course, about Aspergers and Autism. I've worked in the district with these students and totally "get" them. I enjoy these students, just helping them makes me smile.

Autism

I have worked with Autism students and all spectrum disorders throughout my years as a para professional. I update my credits in education yearly. The most recent being Behavior Training III and IV. I've had all the Autism courses that the district offers. I love these students as they really are the greatest minds out there!

Dyslexia

I have listed the following staff development classes I've taken in the school district.
I work in Special Ed at an elementary school where I work with students with dyslexia diagnosis.

Handwriting

I work daily with K-2 on handwriting. I use Handwriting Without Tears and Wilson Phonics program. I have been using these programs for 2 years (Wilson) and 7 years Handwriting Without Tears.

Reading

Please read my profile and any questions, just ask!

Special Needs

I have worked for DCSD for 7 years as a Mild and Moderate Special Needs Para. I've brought up my own children and love working with these children who just need a little extra help. Patience is the key, and with all the training I've had through the districts staff development courses, in behavior management and CPI. I love these students! I work mainly with students one on one in K-6 grades.
