I am a semi-retired substitute, high school Spanish teacher, with more than 15 years of teaching experience, both full-time and part-time. In addition, I have spent the last 11 years taking graduate level advanced Spanish courses at the University of Denver. In November of 2008, I received my Graduate Certificate in Modern Languages with an emphasis in advanced Spanish after taking 44 quarter hours and earning a 3.98 GPA. Currently, I am still taking classes; however, now I am taking them for non-credit because I have a tremendous passion for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Furthermore, I still do all the class work that is required for students taking the classes for credit. In addition, in September of 2010, my husband and I traveled to the Riviera Maya to visit the Mayan Ruins at Tulum, which had been one of my dreams for many years. Also, while in Mexico I spoke so much Spanish that the native Spanish speakers were absolutely amazed at how well I spoke their language, because the majority of tourists that visit Mexico can speak little or no Spanish. Finally, I have tutored high school students in Spanish who were failing and helped them raise their grades to a B or better. Spanish grammar is my passion, since I have written between 63-84 Spanish papers on various subjects, as well as, given between 25-30 oral Spanish presentations on various subjects. Therefore, I definitely feel confident that I can motivate any student to learn Spanish. Finally, in addition to my teaching and tutoring experience, I have done bilingual English/Spanish and Spanish/English translation. In fact, during the Spring of 2010 I worked for the Denver Regional Census Center in the Administrative department for 3 months, where I was specifically hired to handle all the Spanish phone calls regarding various aspects of the decennial, from how to apply for jobs to resolving payroll problems for the enumerators who worked in the field for a 10-state region. If you have any further questions about my knowledge and expertise of the Spanish language, or would like to schedule an appointment to tutor your child, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Muchas gracias, Dorrie
