More about my reading and writing expertise:
I have taught fine art, reading and writing privately for about 20 years and I also served as an adjunct art faculty member at Cerro Coso College art department, private art schools and in the public art arena. My language students range from elementary school through high school and college for public school testing as well as ESL. Students I have taught range in age from four years old to adult.
I'm a professional artist and writer with over 2 decades of teaching experience. I write for local and international newspapers, magazines, and websites. My public art is in exhibitions and collections of over 5 Colorado and California cities, and my private collectors are located worldwide.
While my professional focus is in world class fine art, environmental design and non fiction writing, one of my greatest joys is to tutor and teach others how to excel at these fascinating and cutting edge fields. I have traveled the world teaching art, English language, and writing, and now I look forward to working with you or your child student face to face or online via video chat - where ever you may live- or where ever your corporate training needs may be.
My former art students now hold jobs in the exciting fields of Hollywood video special effects (Tron, Real Steel and Transformers - Dark of the Moon) medicine, engineering, banking, nuclear energy and more. My art students consistently (since 1996) win top honors in juried art shows such as for Colorado College, United States Junior Duck Stamp Design Competition, US Humane Society and more.
My language students consistently excel at and pass college entrance examinations and TEFL testing as well as earn high honors in their studies graduating Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude from Art Center College of Design and other prestigious universities.
Don't let the lists of facts bother you - history is actually fun. It is basically a compilation of stories about our past, and the past of many cultures. The boring part is always, always due to a boring writer. So let's get started with the good stuff - the stories!
The timelines help with sorting out the issues and resolutions, but the stories make history come alive and then, and only then, a memorable experience. Ps: yes, we can also learn how to set the data into your memory bank of your mind - that's just for tests - while you learn the facts via the true stories in American History.
My studies in Art History include Briarcliff University's summer abroad program seminars at European Museums, Renaissance focus. Antiquities art history studies doing hands on art restoration at the J. Paul Getty Museum, with academic credits at Art Center College of Design. Translations of art history and interpreting for Atami Art Museum, Atami, Japan.
For decades I have taught students with Aspergers. I understand the limited social skills and limited use of social cues of these amazing students, and we communicate on many levels besides the common verbal talking. Most of my Aspergers students stay with me for 5-10 years since we do so well together in what I call "clusters" of skills that first build confidence and trust, which makes way for a variety of information to not only be absorbed, but also to be used and brought out at will for the student, and that facilitates the measurement of their learning (tests in common jargon) for academic use.
Not only have we succeeded in rounding out the hyper focus of the Aspergers student, but also we've come to understand some ways for the Aspergers student to make their own successes, and find their own way to achievements they desire. As every parent of an Aspergers student knows, the student thrives on details of their current favorite subject to the nth degree. Taking that amazing focus as strength is key to teaching the Aspergers student, while building a certain level of trust and relationship for learning.
As a former vocational rehabilitation/job development counselor, I have professional experience teaching job seeking and interviewing skills since 1979. These skills include resume and cover letter development, how to land an interview even when they are not hiring, job seeking and interview skills, job outlook and corporate research, resulting in success for 99% of the jobs for which they interviewed.
For over 3 decades, I have taught a variety of cooking skills to students. In Japan, over a 2-year period of cultural exchange, I taught cooks and chefs some basics of classical American cooking and flavor profiles as regards meats, starches and desserts, the why and how of the flavors and textures, and the "umami" aspect of American satisfaction with food.
In the U.S., I have taught private classes for chocolate making and chocolate sculpture, sugar-based sculpture, pastries, bread, and common, staple foods and their flavor profiles for success with small (1-25 persons) party quantities. Cooking and food is a delicious chemistry class that requires planning, measurement and execution. Part nutritional science, part chemical reactions and - the fun part - exploration and flavor.
Basics of kitchen set up, efficiency, nutrition, allergies and substitution facts help the student to get around the recipes, jump start basic cooking skills, and simply cook good food.
As a professional artist and teacher, I have over 3 decades of teaching drawing. I studied at Art Center College of Design, with a focus on drawing and environmental design. I have taught drawing, illustration and painting in Colorado since 1994 at Monument School of Fine Arts in Monument, Colorado.
I've successfully taught hundreds of students to draw over the years, and my students win top honors in the US Department of the Interior Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest for Colorado every year as well as other national and state awards. From public school to private art studio classes and artcamp, I've been sharing this most basic of skills with every age of art student for decades.
Marks on a page is the way the dictionary describes drawing. My description includes meaningful graphic action on a page, a wall or a computer. Our visual perception requires 3 basics: light, medium and dark tones. From there we make a circle into a sphere or draw a triangle and advance it into a rocket ship. Everything we see has a basic hidden secret that we use every day to see, now let's put that on the page in a drawing!

I've helped students succeed in their writing - go to the good grades! Most kids just need some help coordinating their thoughts onto the page, and I've got that covered with my special aids in tutoring system. We use my writing outlines that fit any assignment to get your project finished as fast as possible, and yes! I'll help you proof read your work so it's ready to turn in. We always keep a copy on hand for back up, so no worries if the teacher "loses" a writing project - we have proof.
Since 1982, I have been involved with the film and commercial photography industry in a wide variety of areas. From the early days of computer-generated video animation that started at Cal Tech/ JPL, to film sets at Art Center College of Design to the sound stages at Disney Channel and costuming and set work for both live action and post production companies, my past experiences can help you get a good knowledge of what goes into the actual production of a movie. Much of the small scale skills we cover carry over to larger projects in a big way.
Since 1996, I have offered video classes at Monument School of Fine Arts. Students learn the basics of blocking and framing the shots, directing talent and crew, acting, writing short mini movies, props/wardrobe/set planning and more.
Many of my students go on to be involved in school drama presentations, the entertainment and film industry, corporate presentations, online video presentations and more.
Knowing your way around even a small studio a film set - behind and in front of the camera - offers you skills far beyond a one-time movie class. This work prepares you/your student for many life situations including self-presentation skills, dressing for success, how others perceive you, and much more.
We'll make sense of English grammar together right away. I've taught grammar to elementary, midde/high school, college and ESL students in Japan and in the USA to many, many students, and my students have all passed their tests and entrance applications. I was admissions counselor at the prestigious Art Center College of Design, and I have over 3 decades of tutoring grammar for all ages and backgrounds. Let's get started today!
Let's get started today! Literature is a key component in your education, and it can be tricky to understand for exams. We'll discover what defines works, symbolism and ideas in literature, and learn to analyze the works. The key to successful public speaking is connecting with your audience in a genuine way, being open to their attention, and as regards your actual speech: practice, practice, practice.
In all my classes, I teach the basics of speaking in front of a group. For example, even my art students must be able to present their work to me at the easel and then in front of the group, and we do it every class so it becomes quite natural. From personal grooming, diction and delivery, being able to speak in front of a familiar group or the general public, public speaking skills are vital to many situations and careers.
As a professional lecturer, I am called to do public speaking throughout the year. Not only must I address my own classes (I teach art and multi media AV classes for kids - a tough audience!), but also must do public presentations to civic committees and multi media presentations for our public art proposals, as well as the eventual acceptance speeches when we land our projects.
From being the MC for awards ceremonies, to weddings (I am a wedding officiant) to addressing city officials for our proposals and the public at my art installation dedications to addressing thousands of people in a foreign language (I've also given speeches in Japanese and Mandarin), I have experience with prepared as well as impromptu speeches. I am sure I can help you as well!

Great Tutor. — Before I started my tutoring with Janet, I considered myself to be artistically challenged. I would often joke to friends that I couldn't draw a good stick figure with a ruler and a compass. But even a few short lessons with Janet taught me that I'm not as bad as I thought I was. She was patient with me and taught me some basic skills, and even after the first lesson, I was drawing better then I ...
