My name is Sarah, and I would like to help you become comfortable with science. I have always loved science, but it didn't always come easily to me. I remember struggling with chemistry, especially. My own experience has taught me a great deal about perseverance, hard work, and how to handle frustration. As your tutor, I'll make sure that you have the background to do well in your subject, for chemistry this might mean making sure you have a solid algebra foundation, or for microbiology, an understanding of basic biology.
I have experience as a college level general zoology tutor, and have worked with both traditional college students and adults returning to school after some time away. Most of my experience has been one-on-one, but I have tutored small groups as well, generally 3-5 students. I am patient, prefer a hands-on approach, and am not afraid of shifting my approach to best meet the needs of my students.
Science is for everyone, it just doesn't come easily to everyone. I'll help you gain confidence in your own ability to tackle the tough science problems so you can begin to enjoy it. I graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in microbiology and a minor in molecular genetics. Since then, I have worked in HIV research and enrolled in a Masters program at Tulane University's School for Public Health and Tropical Medicine. My education and experience has given me a breadth of experience in the biological sciences, so if there's a subject you're having trouble with, just ask if I can help.
