I am happy to tutor you in any subject that I feel capable of teaching. After over 25 years of experience teaching grades K-12 in Southern California and in Colorado, I can say that I have learned how to make curriculum accessible to all students. You might think this is a bold declaration, however I believe that with the appropriate assessment and evaluation of needs I am capable of prescribing an educational program unique to your needs. I am a good listener and I stay focused and insure that you stay focused also. I know that learning isn't always easy. I am willing to do what it takes to help you build the confidence and skills to learn what you need to learn to achieve your goals. In addition to being a teacher I have been a Native Language Tutor and I have also tutored High School and Middle School students. As a Native Language Tutor I worked with individuals and small groups of students learn English and achieve grade level proficiency in other academic areas. The Secondary-level students that I tutored improved in the areas that we worked on; High School Spanish, Reading, and Math. The most rewarding moments of my career have been when my students say, "Now I get it!"

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I passed the Algebra 1 test with WyzAnt. I am patient and thorough while instructing Math because it is a subject at which I have to work hard.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a current Professional Teaching License from Colorado with an en endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education.

Phonics

I have experience teaching phonics to Kindergartners through Middle School English Language Learners. In addition, as a Reading Recovery Teacher and a Native Language Tutor one of my primary objectives was to teach English Reading through phonics.

Salsa Dancing

I consider myself a good Salsa Dance Teacher. I know the basic steps, rhythm, and basic body movements that transfer to all partner dancing; frame and partner position and hand pressure between partners. I can also teach turns, styling, and variations. I have been dancing for around 15 years and I have taken lessons from several well-known instructors in Los Angeles. Currently, I dance once a week. I am very good at teaching basic latin dancing. It is one of my passions.
