I recently returned back to Boulder, Colorado, after studying abroad for one year at Tsinghua University, one of the most prestigious university in all of China. I intensively studied Chinese language, which perfected my Mandarin pronunciation and also mastered my skills in advanced reading (contemporary and classical Chinese), intensive Chinese grammar, formal Chinese writing, Business Chinese, and discussion and debate. I've managed to pass the HSK Exam (Chinese Proficiency Exam used in Asia) with with an exceptionally high score and obtained a certificate that recognizes my Chinese language ability as "advanced with high honors" (HSK Level 6). This exam mirrors the English TOEFL and I now qualify to apply for Chinese jobs and work in Chinese businesses and corporations.
During my stay in Beijing, China, I also did an exhaustive study in Chinese history, culture, and customs. I've worked side by side with the most elite students in all of China and participated in events that promoted international cooperation, educational exchange, and even had the opportunity to visit some of the most influential corporations in China including Baidu, Sohu, LEM, and Sina. Just this summer 2012, I worked as an interpreter and cultural bridge for Harvard University on an exchange program known as IMUSE. I believe it's safe to say that apart from providing Mandarin instruction, I can also provide valuable knowledge about Chinese culture and how to communicate and negotiate with Chinese natives.
Apart from staying in Beijing, I am also a very-well traveled individual. I've been to nearly very province in China and made frequent visits to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, as well as Taiwan. In fact, I've lived in Guangzhou for 3 consecutive years and became fluent in Cantonese. I can provide instruction in both Mandarin and Cantonese and even provide knowledge of my personal experiences living, studying, and working abroad.
