Hello! I am an energetic and determined individual with the belief that anyones goals can be reached! I am a goal oriented individual and know that sometimes it is not easy to achieve goals that we set for ourselves. This being said, sometimes we need a little bit of outside help to reach our goals and that is okay! Learning is all about seeking answers from all resources that are available to you. Let me tell you a little more about myself and why I believe I could be a good tutor!
Currently I work as a special education para educator in an Elementary school. I assist several students one on one to achieve success in the classroom. We use various methods of learning and keep trying new methods until we find something that works! Additionally, I am a talk coach for a stroke survivor. I assist him by researching current treatment methods for learning to read, speak and write again after a stroke. When I began working with him two years ago he could not speak and now he speaks colloquially, we continue to work so that he can reach his goal of achieving a voice similar to his prior to the stroke! Previously I have worked as a mentor and advocate for adults and children with disabilities for independent agencies. I have modeled appropriate behaviors and helped each individual set goals of their own, following a plan to achieve the goals. I have also recently begun as a volunteer for Intercambio, teaching English to non-native speakers. I attended a training which taught me several new skills for teaching the English language and all of its components!
I am a bit of a language nerd...I have a BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Iowa. After obtaining my goal of earning an undergraduate degree, I set a new one to move to Colorado and I achieved it! I have now been a resident of Colorado for 3 years and love everything the beautiful state has to offer. A new goal of mine is to apply for graduate studies in Speech Language Pathology. I believe that my drive is inspiring to others and I love to learn! Becoming a tutor will be reciprocal because I will be able to use my experience in teaching, while learning new subject matter to assist the student who is learning! I will do everything I possibly can to help the student achieve their goal and I look forward to meeting my new students soon.
