I just graduated from a double Master's degree at the University of Glasgow and Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. I can tutor in French, Russian and Polish, and have much experience and strong skills in writing (and helping others, including non-native English speakers write), in both style and paper structure. My Bachelor's is from the University of Colorado, where I majored in Psychology, History and Russian Studies. I can also tutor in social sciences research and research methodologies.

My approach to tutoring is to bring seemingly unrelated details into a coherent narrative, so that subjects can be understood, not memorized. When addressing questions or corrections, I not only tell people what is wrong, but discuss why, and how, in the future, similar issues might be predicted. History isn't just names and dates; it's a story. Languages aren't just words and grammar rules; they're ways of thinking. Writing doesn't have to be tedious and time consuming; it can be as natural as speaking. I have a foundation in more subjects than I've signed up to tutor here, but I only signed up to teach subjects that I'm passionate enough about to bring a new level of understanding and interest to others.

American History

I majored in history at CU and love the subject. I'm well grounded in American history in general, and my particular fascination is in Colonial American history.

Grammar

Not only is my understanding of English grammar strong, but through the course of studying four foreign languages (French, Russian, Polish and German), I've developed an even deeper comprehension of grammar in general and can not only explain what the grammar is, but why it is that way.

European History

I majored in History at CU, with an emphasis on modern European history. I also studied Central and Eastern European studies in Glasgow, Scotland and Krakow, Poland, which again included a lot of history, especially that of the Cold War. My particular interests include the Industrial Revolution, WWI, WWII and the history of Central and Eastern Europe. I have also studied much intellectual history, including the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Romanticism.

Writing

Good writing is one of the most valuable skills anyone can have, and it is not hard to learn. It's more a science than an elusive art, and I have written online guides to writing better. I can help you write better papers faster and more easily.

Geography

I've always liked Geography, have studied it extensively, and even where I was not directly studying it, it has formed the basis for most of my current specializations. Furthermore, at this point in my life, I've traveled a lot and lived abroad, so I can impart both interest and knowledge to others.

English

I have a strong background in English, and am particularly good at writing papers. I've helped a lot of people (many of whom were not native English speakers) to write more effectively, both in terms of grammar and style and, more importantly, paper structure. I've also written online guides to writing more quickly and more effectively. I love writing, and I love teaching other people to write. It's one of the most important skills anyone can have.

Government & Politics

My Master's degrees from the University of Glasgow and Jagiellonian University in Krakow both strongly emphasized political science. I have solid grounding in the civics, government and politics of both the US and Europe, including the EU, parliamentary systems, and most prominent European countries.

Psychology

I studied IB Psychology Higher Level in High School, and majored in it in College. I have an understanding of the theories, experiments, and thinkers, and more importantly research methodology and analysis.

World History

In addition to strong backgrounds in American and European history, I am familiar with Latin American history, and World History through major events, the Industrial Revolution, First World War, Second World War and especially the Cold War.

Russian

I majored in Russian Studies at CU and studied abroad in St. Petersburg one summer. I have a particular interest in an understanding of the grammar (which has been enhanced by subsequent studies of Polish and other Slavic languages, as well as general Slavic grammar). I have tutored Russian before, and written an online guide to Russian grammar.

Polish

I studied Polish through my double Master's degree, have conducted research in Polish, and lived in Krakow for a year. I have a particularly strong knowledge of grammar, having also studied Russian and generic Slavic grammar. I can render this beautiful language and its complex grammatical structure accessible and understandable.
