Bilingual Early Childhood Special E. educator (ECSE) Pre-k to 1st g

I have always been a teacher of children in early ages: infants, preschoolers, kindergartners, and first graders. I have 26 years of experience, 11 of those years working for St Vrain School District. I am actually working as a preschool special education teacher. I am very dedicated to my students and their progress. I love to maintain a close communication with parents and help them to be involved in their children's education.
I am a strong believer of bilingual education, not only to use Spanish (or native language) as the bridge to transfer better to the second language (English), but as a tremendous privilege of owning two languages and two cultures. When children grow strong in their first language and maintain the cultural roots they adapt, they respect the second culture, have a more positive attitude, feel more proud of who they are and have self respect. I believe in early intervention because it is during the first years of life when children develop important skills which are future requirement areas for learning content.

Siempre he sido una maestra de los niños en temprana infancia: bebés, niños en edad preescolar, de kindergarten y primer grado. Tengo 26 años de experiencia, 11 de esos años trabajando para el distrito escolar de St Vrain. Actualmente estoy trabajando como maestra de prescolar, donde trabajo con niños típicos y niños a los que les ofrezco educación especial. Soy muy dedicada a mis alumnos, a su progreso y sobre todo me gusta mantener una estrecha comunicación con los padres y ayudarles a que participen en la educación de sus hijos.
Soy una fuerte creyente de la educación bilingüe, y de no sólo usar el español(o lengua nativa) como el puente para transferirse mejor a una segunda lengua (ingles), sino de tener el privilegio de poseer dos idiomas y dos culturas. Cuando los niños crecen fuertes en su primer idioma y mantienen sus raíces culturales, se adaptan , respetan la cultura segunda cultura y sobre todo tienen una actitud más positiva, se siente mas orgullosos de quien son y se dan a respetar. Creo en la intervención temprana porque es durante los primeros años de vida cuando los niños desarrollan habilidades importantes que son requisito de futuras áreas de aprendizaje.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary has been my focus while working with ELL. My daily job requires that I work with kids that must improve their Oral language acquisition which is very limited due to their lack of experience.

Grammar

Spanish is my native language and I have studied all the components of my language every year of school since Kindergarten until high school as a requirement. Language was also a required subject when I was working on my associate degree on Special Education in Venezuela.

Reading

Students in first grade must study and master the Language concepts of oral expression and listening, reading for all purposes, writing and composition, and research and reasoning. Word study skills, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension skills are indispensable in order to achieve independent reading level by the end of the year school year. The writing process is also an important and associated process that supports and enhances reading.

Spanish

Spanish is my native language. I took the Place exam, required by Colorado. I have worked as a language teacher in my country, Venezuela. My area of interest is to teach kids in early ages to learn Spanish as a second language(PreK-3rd grade)

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a teaching professional license of early Childhood Special education Birth - 8 years old. I have worked for K and first grade for my school district and I am now a preschool director.

Phonics

My second master's is in special education/linguistically diverse double endorsement. I have worked phonics with bilingual kindergarteners and fist graders in the last 11 years. I feel confident on working with K and 1st graders monolinguals to work in phonics area.

Study Skills

In the past I have worked with students basically on study skills (middle and high school). Actually my only interest is work with Pre-K - 1st grade. As a special educator my experience working with students who require a lot of modifications of curriculum, adaptations and changes of strategies in order to learn tells how knowledgeable I am with study skills with kids in these ages.
