My goal in working with students is to help them understand the principles behind the subject they are working in. Anyone can understand all the intro sciences well, if they are willing to put in the work and have a teacher that has an interest in helping them get there. I'm convinced that the reason so many students are frustrated by introductory physics
, and calculus
is that they are often taught by people that simply don't understand the topics and couldn't care less if their students learned from them. This leads a lot of students to tell themselves things like "I guess I'm just not good at math
" and give up. That's a tragedy.
This is where people like me come in. I've been learning science
, math, and engineering for the past 10 years and there are two things I've learned. First, a huge part of learning science is learning how to learn science. There are techniques to learning these subjects and you get better at them the more you do them. As high school or early college students, you haven't learned that yet - I can help you do that.
The second, and probably most important, thing is the cumulative nature of what you're learning. If your algebra
skills are really weak, then calculus will really be a struggle for you. And if you don't learn calculus really well, you'll get smoked when you get to physics because algebra and calculus are everywhere. The good news is that if you learn the basics really well, everything else, particularly organic chemistry
, is a breeze.

While I am comfortable working with students of all backgrounds, the bulk of my recent work has been with students intending to apply to medical school and other schools for health professionals. As a former premed student myself, I have a high degree of experience with preparation for the MCAT
