I have been an instructor at a community college for 7 years, teaching general biology, and anatomy and physiology. I am also a CRLA-certified master tutor, with over 2000 hours of tutoring experience. I have tutored students individually, in small groups, and in large classroom settings.
My experience includes tutoring chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology at a community college for 8 years, as well as tutoring high school chemistry (general chemistry and AP).
I am passionate about science and math and want to share my enthusiasm with students in these fields. My goal is to help students succeed in subjects they might find difficult. I am extremely patient, and utilize a wide variety of techniques to explain complex topics. I have received numerous student commendations.
I currently teach general biology at a community college. I have also tutored general biology, both to college and high school students. I am passionate about the subject and love helping students understand difficult concepts.
I have tutored general chemistry at a community college for over 6 years. In order to solve a chemistry problem, it is important to have a clear understanding of how to approach the problem. I help students analyze the question to understand what information is given, what specifically is being asked, and what steps are needed to answer the question. I go over step-by-step instructions, explaining the theory behind each step, so the student will be able to solve similar problems in the future.
A thorough understanding of chemistry is critical for other subjects such as biology, and I love helping students see the important applications of chemistry.
I have tutored chemistry and biology for almost 10 years. During this time, I have worked with a variety of students of different skill levels and backgrounds. Helping them organize their time productively is a major part of my tutoring sessions. In addition, I help students learn to study effectively by suggesting ways to organize their notes, develop strategies to consolidate the information they are learning, and retain the information. Studying is more than just memorizing the subject matter. If students can "see the big picture" and link information together, they will learn more effectively than if they just try to memorize isolated facts.
In addition I led supplemental instruction sessions for large groups of students in which I helped students find ways to remember the vast amount of information required for a college anatomy and physiology class. By learning to use visual, auditory and kinesthetic techniques, students can become more effective learners. If students can learn how to work with their notes, developing charts, pictures, summaries, and potential test questions, they will retain more information.
Studying is an art, and I enjoy helping students learn what is most effective for them.
