Hello! Thank you for considering me to be your tutor. I'm a professional teacher with 20 years of experience. I've taught grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. I have a strong background and passion for literacy, but I have also taught math, science, and social studies to a variety of learners. I am currently a Teacher Librarian, so I love literature, research and technology.

I am always professional, reliable, friendly, and I am confident I can help my learners be successful. I can tailor instruction to meet the needs of my learners. I like kids to be engaged while they learn with laughter along the way. I want kids to be confident to take risks with their learning, but is is extremely important to me to make sure they feel safe every step of the way.

I am confident I can help with smaller homework assignments as well as long-term projects. I do love being a partner in learning. Believing as I do and working as I have, I know I can help others become life-long learners like I am.

Grammar

I have explicitly taught grammar each year as an educator. I have taught it out of context and in the context of writing.

English

I have a BA in English. I taught English, language arts, and/or literacy every year of my 20 years as a teacher.

Literature

Literature is my passion!

Proofreading

I have great proofreading skills. Not only have I taught proofreading skills to my learners, but my colleagues often seek me out to help proofread something for them.

Spelling

I have always been a natural speller. I can easily make sense of the spelling rules. They are really pretty good and reliable.

Elementary Math

I taught math in grades 1,2, 4,5, 6, and 7.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my Colorado Teacher Licensure - Professional Teaching License - Elementary Education, English/Language Arts, and Teacher Librarian K-12.

Phonics

Phonics is connecting sounds to written letters. I taught first grade for 3 years and 2 grade for 4 years. Phonics was an essential component of a balanced reading approach. I am very familiar with the FAST approach to phonics.
