Hello! I am currently a mathematics teacher at a small private school but truly enjoy being able to work with students on a individual basis. So many students have difficulty in math but they fail to recognize that learning math is more like learning a foreign language than something you are naturally "good at." I believe that everyone can learn and that most of the time, it is a matter of going back to the place where the student got lost rather than trying to just press on with 60% understanding.

In addition to mathematics, I am available and qualified to teach Theology and history, as well as coaching soccer. I have degrees in theology and have taught at the college level. I also have extensive experience coaching - at the youth level - and playing soccer - at the youth and college level.

My tutoring methods vary from student to student, depending on their level of understanding, experiences, and commitment to understanding the subject. I have tutored students in various situations; some who just needed to pass their class and only gave me two sessions before their final and others who were homeschooled and needed the whole class taught to them. I am ready and willing to work with students in all situations and truly believe that together we can make an impact.

ACT Science

The Science portion of the ACT is really based on simple concepts. By talking through these concepts and practicing identifying them, your student can be successful in this portion of the test.

My most recent ACT student improved his overall score by 3 points, mostly due to improving his science subscore, though all of his subscores improved by at least a point.

Algebra 1

Having spent 5+ years tutoring Algebra 2 and 3 years teaching Geometry & Precalculus, I am confident I can help your student succeed in Algebra 1.

Algebra 2

Having spent 5+ tutoring Algebra II, including 1 year teaching a home-schooled student, and 3 years teaching Geometry & Precalculus, I have helped many students in Algebra II. My most recent tutored Algebra II students improved their grades while working with me from a D to a high C and from a B to an A, respectively.

Bible Studies

Educationally, I have a PhD and a Masters degree in Theology from a small Bible college and I am currently studying on my own with hopes of someday starting an Orthodox Christian school. I have also taught a class at the college level.

My dissertation focused on the necessity of discipleship for student athletes and included a brief history of Christianity, American Christianity, and a discourse on American Sport Culture. I am well-versed in Scripture from a Protestant/Evangelical and Orthodox perspective and greatly enjoy diving into the Scriptures.

Calculus

I taught AP Calculus AB at a private school for 3 years, with my students consistently receiving either a 4 or 5 on the AP test, and have a strong background in the subject.

Calculus generally begins with the concept of limits and then progressing into derivatives and integrals, along with their respective applications. The student will also learn about more advanced mathematical modeling, differential equations, infinite series, all of which will prepare them for more advanced mathematics classes like Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra.

Elementary Math

Elementary math includes number theory, which is the study of whole numbers and relations between them. Things like factors, multiples, primes, composites, divisibility tests, and exponents provide a critical basis for later mathematical understanding. This may be the most important subject for a student to gain a good foundation in because contrary to popular believe, math is a learned skill, not just a talent.

English

Although my focus is primarily on math, I have served as a long-term substitute teacher for freshman English and American literature. I enjoy writing and have an excellent grasp of the English language. I am able to tutor all levels of English at or below College Freshman English.

European History

An avid history lover, I am able to cover a wide variety of topics in European history. I am a strong believer in understanding the underlying historical issues as they relate to present understandings. Accordingly, an understanding of things like migration, trade, disease, spread of religion, government, democracy can be seen in a larger context that is applicable to today.

General Computer

I have experience with all Microsoft office products, LaTeX, Visual Basic, and C as well as general hardware and software knowledge.

Geometry

I taught Geometry at a private school for 3 years and have a strong background in the subject. My students have proven success and achieve a high level of understanding in geometric subjects like: geometric structure, tools of geometry, reasoning and proof, parallel and perpendicular lines, congruence and relationships in triangles and quadrilaterals, proportions, similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, transformations, & two and three dimensional measurements and calculations including circles, polygons, polyhedrons, and pyramids.

Linear Algebra

As a mathematics major, I received an A in undergraduate Linear Algebra. Additionally, I took graduate Applied Linear Algebra at University of Colorado - Denver, receiving a B.

Literature

Although my focus is primarily on math, I have served as a long-term substitute teacher for freshman English and American literature. I enjoy writing and literature and have an excellent grasp of the English language. I am able to tutor all levels of English and literature at or below College freshman English.

Microsoft PowerPoint

A long-time Microsoft Powerpoint user, I have experience in Powerpoint 2003 and 2010, primarily on a Windows system but also some experience on a Mac system. As a teacher, I use Powerpoint 2010 on a regular basis. I have also taken a college class on all Microsoft Office products, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, & Powerpoint.

Microsoft Word

A long-time Microsoft Word user, I have experience in Word 2000, 2003, and 2010, primarily on a Windows system but also some experience on a Mac system. I have also taken a college class on all Microsoft Office products, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, & Powerpoint.

Prealgebra

Having spent 5+ years tutoring Algebra 2 and 3 years teaching Geometry & Precalculus, I am confident I can help your student succeed in PreAlgebra.

Precalculus

I taught PreCalculus at a private school for 2 years and have a strong background in the subject.

Precalculus involves linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions as well as conics, rotations of axis and polar forms, parametric equations and their applications. Polar coordinates are introduced with an emphasis on graphing along with a discussion of vectors and vector operations. Systems of equations and inequalities are examined both graphically and algebraically. This course also touches on complex numbers and DeMoivre's theorem as well as sequences, induction, counting, and probability.

Probability

Having spent several years tutoring Algebra II and two years teaching Geometry & Precalculus, I have helped many students in Probability. The study of probability comes up in Algebra II and Precalculus, as well as Prob/Stats classes. During my undergraduate studies, I took Advanced Probability Theory as well as Probability & Statistics.

Proofreading

Proofreading is essential for any writing endeavor. Having received a PhD last year, I have experience writing a dissertation and many hours of proofreading. I am very detail oriented and consistently accurate in my corrections.

Reading

As a PhD student, I spent many hours reading complex books and articles and I am confident that I can help your student achieve higher reading comprehension levels. This will help them to succeed in all areas of life, academic and nonacademic.

Religion

Educationally, I have a PhD and a Masters degree in Theology from a small Bible college and I am currently studying on my own with hopes of someday starting a school. I have also taught a class at the college level.

My dissertation focused on the necessity of discipleship for student athletes and included a brief history of Christianity, American Christianity, and a discourse on American Sport Culture. I am well-versed in Scripture, Christian history, branches/denominations of Christianity, and in overviews of other world religions.

I enjoy knowing how things work together and how history reveals the present situations, challenges, and development. I believe that this is critically important in the areas of history and religion because no one exists in a vacuum or without a background. These are the areas I focus on when tutoring.

SAT Math

Having spent 5+ years tutoring Algebra II and 3 years teaching Geometry & Precalculus, I am confident I can help your student achieve a high SAT score on the Math section.

Topics covered include the math necessary along with test-taking skills, strategies, and information about the SAT test.

The SAT test can seem like a challenging obstacle for any student preparing for it, but with some practice, it can definitely be mastered. I have a high level of understanding of English and Reading and can help your student prepare for the SAT test by using strategies and practice.

SAT Writing

Writing well is essential for success in many subjects. Having received a PhD last year, I have spent many hours honing my own writing skill. Preparing for the SAT can be challenging, but with practice and strategies, even the writing section can be mastered!

Soccer

In my youth, I played for the top club team for my age group in Colorado from age 12 to 18, obtaining a soccer scholarship to Stanford University. I finished my college career back in Colorado, winning a Division II National Championship and receiving numerous awards. Some of these awards include:
- Two-time NSCAA/adidas Women's Soccer Division II All-America
- Two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team
- Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year
- Team Captain
- Two-time Sportswomen of Colorado award winner (Once with team, once individually)
- Named to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Century Team in 2009

In addition to my playing experience, I have 10+ years coaching soccer, beginning while I was still a youth player. I have coached both teams and individuals in Colorado and in Alabama. A goalkeeper by trade, I have taught individual sessions to many young goalkeepers through the years. I use my own training to bring out the best in my players. I have trained with some of the best goalkeeping coaches in the country including Jay Cooney, coach at Stanford University and long-time coach of Nichole Barnhart, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner and current member of the Women's National Team.

With my experience and personal mindset, I have no doubt that I would be able take your player to the next level.
