I am a certified teacher with extensive experience in tutoring regular and special education students of all ages. After a career as a business
, fiscal, and personnel manager, I became interested in teaching through working with my own children. I began tutoring other students in math
arts and developed and implemented an English
as a second language curriculum for a language conservatory as well as a French
curriculum for a school district's extracurricular program. I also tutored at-risk students in K through 6th grade
in publicly funded math and reading
programs. The positive feedback from parents and teachers about the progress of students who previously performed significantly below their grade levels along with the students' delight in their own progress were the catalysts that led me to become certified in teaching regular education with an endorsement in special education. I taught in the public schools, but really missed working with students one-on-one or in small groups, so I have returned to tutoring and love it!
By implementing a variety of techniques with a positive approach, I adapt the lessons to the needs of the student. I am currently tutoring math students from second grade
1 and Language Arts
students from pre-school through college. I have also helped a number of students to improve ASVAB
, and ACT
I have extensive experience and a particular interest in teaching reading, math, social skills, and organizational skills
to special needs
students with varying diagnoses including ADD, ADHD
, sensory processing disorders, Aspergers
, and developmental delays using a variety of research-based techniques including ABA therapy.
My goal is to guide students to experience accomplishments that spark motivation. I customize lessons and utilize appropriate materials and research-based techniques. I establish high but realistic expectations; practice positive reinforcement; match teaching technique to learning style; and ensure that learning experiences bolster self-esteem. I work with parents, especially of younger students, and at parents' requests and with their written approval, I will communicate with classroom teachers and accompany parents to teacher-parent conferences if parents initiate a request for me to do so. I am always receptive to and appreciative of feedback. Parents are always welcome during lessons.
I look forward to tutoring you!
