I am a lifelong learner who enjoys sharing my passion for learning with others. I enjoy teaching and am patient with students. I focus on coaching students on the learning process as well as the content. I believe that every student is unique and work with each to find approaches to learning, studying and academic success that are attuned to their individuality.
I attended a private college prep high school. I took 7 AP courses in high school and work with students taking AP classes. I earned a B.A. from Rice University and have an MBA from CU-Boulder. Most of my career has been as a Management Consultant, IT Consultant, or Technical Sales Rep to companies and government agencies.
I took the ACT
in June 2013 and scored 32 overall ("Composite", 98th percentile) with subscores of 34 in science
, 32 in Reading
, 31 in Math
, and 29 in English
I tutor students in Middle School and up through high school, college, graduate school, as well as executives. Parents are welcome to participate in meetings if their schedule allows.
I taught math, science and reading in a Denver Public School High School in the 2012-2013 school year. I taught math and science in a private school in the 2013-2014 school year. This school year I am tutoring full time. I much prefer working with students one-on-one or in very small groups rather than in batches. If you are a high school senior or college student with open periods/time during the day, we may be able to find a time during the day to meet as this is my full-time vocation, not something I do on the side.
I have helped a number of people enlist that would not otherwise be able to by helping them increase their ASVAB
My mindset in working with students is that through my mentoring and coaching I am providing my students with an essential freedom: the "freedom to choose" their future, rather than have it chosen for them, as free will is one of the many God-given gifts we all receive. I believe that students, parents and educators have an obligation to discover and develop the many gifts with which students are born. I am not a dispenser of information; I am a mentor and coach in the art
and science of learning.
Here are subjects I have tutored quite a bit recently:

A Note on Communications:
I strive to respond to every email
, text and voicemail within 24 hours (that is an unwritten expectation in the business
world you would be wise to honor). I avoid responding to electronic communication when I am with a student, and as a result it may take longer to respond to your text or email. I'm sure you understand as you would want the same when I am meeting with you. If you send an email or text on a Sunday or even on a Saturday, you will not receive a response until Monday. We are designed by God to work diligently for 6 days and then rest on the seventh day. I recommend the same for you, as it is within your design specs too. :) Take one day off each week and rest. We are not designed to be 7x24 machines. Enjoy the gift of a day of rest and the positive impact it will have on your outlook in life and the positive impact it will have on your work the other 6 days of the week. :)

One of the highest impact things I can do as a teacher, tutor, mentor or dad is help people "learn how to learn". Learning specific math, science, English or other skills are great, but learning how to learn not only enables a student to perform better in
school, but enables the student to learn anything.
I didn't really understand how to learn until getting out of college and...
I have been working with a few students who are ready to learn math much, MUCH faster than allowed by the traditional classroom model in which math is taught over 6 to 8 years. Based on this experience I believe that many students as young as 4th grade and
as old as 8th grade (when starting in the program) can master math in 2 years from simple addition through the first semester of Calculus,...
Over the summer I worked with a High School senior that wanted to join the Marines. We focused on increasing his score in each of the four core tests. I began by diagnosing his strengths and weaknesses and we developed a plan to substantially increase his
I assigned an aggressive amount of work for the student to complete on his own and met periodically to review progress and "target...
