I am a lifelong learner who enjoys sharing my passion for learning with others. I enjoy teaching and am patient with students. I focus on coaching students on the learning process as well as the content. I believe that every student is unique and work with each to find approaches to learning, studying and academic success that are attuned to their individuality.
I attended a private college prep high school (College Prep: math, English, history, science, music, art). I earned an AP or Advanced Placement score of 3 or higher in high school for European history (as a high school sophomore), American history, music literature, and chemistry. I went to Rice University for undergrad and have an MBA from CU-Boulder.
I can help with standardized test taking strategy, techniques and improvement. I scored a 1300 on the SATs (660 Verbal, 640 Math), and over 700 on the GMAT. I took the ACT in June, 2012 and scored 32 in Math, which is in the 97th percentile.
I tutor students in 4th grade and up through high school, college, graduate school, as well as executives.
In 2012 I passed the Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge Test for High School Teachers to qualify for "Highly Qualified Math Teacher" status in the State of Colorado, the highest required score of any state. I passed the test the first time using learning strategies, tools and techniques that I use with my students. I have been teaching math in a public high school in the 2012-2013 school year.
In the last year, I have helped four people enlist that would not otherwise be able to by helping them increase their ASVAB scores significantly: 1 Marine, 2 Navy, and 1 Air Force. All were barely out of high school with essentially dead-end jobs or worse and were motivated enough to meet once per week for 2 hours and then work on their own for 5-10 hours during the week at my direction of what they should do.
My mindset in working with students is that through my mentoring and coaching I am providing my students with an essential freedom: the "freedom to choose" their future, rather than have it chosen for them, as free will is one of the many God-given gifts we all receive. I am not a dispenser of information; I am a mentor and coach in the art and science of learning.

I believe that many students can master the math typically learned in middle school and high school (Arithmetic, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Statistics, Probability and getting started on Calculus) at a much faster pace than has traditionally been the case in schools with classes in which students are taught in "batches." I am currently working with a variety of students in middle school with the goal of mastering the math covered through high school in 2 years (rather than 5-9 years).
I meet with each student for two hours each week to review progress, teach the students math they are ready to learn next, and show them how to complete the next assignments for the following week which is a mix of math conditioning, videos with guided notes for the students to complete, selected games, etc. I am looking to add more students to this innovative program, so if you are interested in moving your student to a position of being ahead in math, way ahead, contact me to discuss in more detail and schedule a 2 hour time slot each week. Space is limited.
As the goal of completing high school math in middle school or late elementary school is aggressive, we typically meet throughout the year with a somewhat lighter load in July (my vacation month) and a lighter load the Holiday week in late December.
