My name is Andrew M. I am originally from Honolulu, Hawaii. I studied psychology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I have worked as an English teacher in both the Kansai and Kanto regions of Japan. In all I spent about 7 years teaching English in Japan. I have taught all ages from elementary school through high school. I have taught private lessons at businesses, community centers, sports clubs, etc. I have successfully used my psychology background to apply behavior modification techniques, like shaping, to language acquisition. I mainly adhere to a three "P" method consisting of presentation, practice, and production. The combination of the 3 "P's" varies on the level of the students with higher students requiring less presentation and are usually afforded more production time focusing on the specific target of the lesson. I do emphasize listening skills and practice, and I have developed some fun techniques to build these skills. As most things in life I think it is important for there to be some level of fun and so I do strive to keep things interesting.
