More Than Just Math Help! I Teach Your Student To Be An 'A' Student!

Time and time again, I hear parents say, "I know my student has the potential, but he/she is not making the grades. I can't help them in math and science. That was 'X' number of years ago. What do I do?" I am here to help your student.

As a community college instructor in Fundamental Math, I have worked with students from all ages and backgrounds. I have helped students with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, Aspergers, brain injuries, ELL (English Language Learners), and those who "just don't like math".

I just don't sit and help your student with homework, but I evaluate learning styles and offer study strategies for your student to succeed in school and graduate with confidence as he or she looks towards college.

Composition (Music)

I write and compose my own music for guitar, voice, and percussion. I have written a full album of music with lyrics and have had my music professionally recorded.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary students in Saxon math, elementary writing, and elementary reading. During the sessions, I have employed strategies of phonics and pronunciation, in addition to vocabulary to help the students maintain higher levels of reading comprehension and understanding.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar for 12 years and currently have two young boys as students. They have been with me 8 months and already are learning Beatles songs, chord progressions, and scales, among other things. I have also written my own music and have performed in front of numerous audiences.

Study Skills

I believe that study skills are integral in doing well on any subject. I have experience with studying for Advanced Placement exams, other standardized tests including the SAT, ACT, GRE and other tests. I integrate mnemonics, pictures, examples, idioms, and metaphors so students receive new perspectives when trying to learn concepts that are not always easy to understand.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with a student that has had ADD/ADHD. He was struggling with staying on task at times, and also was easily distracted. I was able to assist in helping him focus and complete his assignments. My study strategies helped him in passing his class with a B, when before I started helping him he had a low C.

Dyslexia

I have experience with students that have had dyslexia. I teach the fundamentals of math where students take the Accuplacer exam and "test into" MAT 030 at the college level because of their learning differences. I have found strategies using color and number placement to help these students see the correct numbers and words.
