I just want you to know that I am an excellent tutor. With my years of experience as a technical writer, I have the ability to clarify difficult concepts, and to put them in the simplest terms for anyone. I like to help the students walk themselves through the instructions. I won't be there forever, and it is good to help them learn how to figure out what comes next. If they can learn to understand and follow any instructions, they can do anything! It's worked for me - it can work for you too.

I've had years of experience teaching others how to do the things they want to do, in a non-formal environment. I've taught friends how to play piano, paint, craft, sew, and cook. I've taught co-workers how to use their office software, and I can teach you too!

Piano

I have been teaching piano for over 4 years. I have been playing for church and choir for over 10 years. I have been playing for fun for over 25 years. Let me teach you! I use Bastian and Alfred Basic books to teach by. They are fun for kids and helpful for adults. I teach basic piano so that you can read music and play the songs you want to play!

ESL/ESOL

I taught a free ESL class for one year. I taught classes ranging in size from 3-20 students. We focused on the beginning basics of English. It was a wonderful experience and I like teaching my students the interesting parts of the English language.

I have also volunteered as a reading tutor to assist others improve their English reading skills. I was with one student through to their graduation.

Sewing

I am a self-taught (and mother-taught) sewer. I have made twin, king, and wall quilts for my home and family. I have created dresses for myself and for my dolls when I was growing up. Teaching you to sew would be so much fun! Picking out fabrics, going through the instructions, creating something new, and showing it off. What a great feeling!

Cooking

I've been cooking for my family for over 10 years now. I make simple meals on a regular basis - and I can help you too! Like baking? So do I! My family calls me "Mrs. Good Cookie" and I love to try new baking recipes. I also enjoy making candy - caramels, chocolate covered anything, taffy, toffee, etc.

Desktop Publishing

I have been a technical writer for many years now, and I have become extremely familiar with desktop publishing software. I can tutor in Acrobat, FrameMaker, Robohelp, MS Project, PowerPoint, Word and more. Let me help you create the document you need!

Microsoft Windows

Any version of MS Windows can be learned. You will learn the basics of navigating around Windows, and shortcuts that most people don't know. Learn the concept of Windows and you can do anything.

I have been a user of windows for 20 years, and I have written software manuals for almost 10 years which rely on a windows based platform. I can assist in Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and any other OS you need.

Needlework

I have made many, many afghans, scarves, hats, and gloves out of yarn using both knitting and crocheting. I have taught friends and family to craft with yarn, and they in turn have taught others. I also have created a lot of counted cross-stitch pieces. There are a few things I can help you learn about working with a needle. It takes patience, but when your piece is done, you will know that you have done something great!
