Let me introduce myself. My name is Jean E. and my teaching experience has been mostly with early learners, kindergarten through fifth grades. I taught 5 years in Missouri teaching students with learning and behavioral challenges. That experience taught me how to individualize learning for students and how to give students confidence and a positive self-image to help them succeed. I also learned how to educate parents so they can feel confident helping their student learn at home. When we moved to Colorado, I became a classroom teacher but with the same goals, to help every student succeed. I feel it was this philosophy that allowed me to win two separate Teacher of the Year awards.
After teaching 15 years in Colorado in K-2 classrooms, I decided to specialize in literacy skills because I noticed that more and more children were needing extra support. My elementary school allowed me to take a position as a reading specialist and take more classes specifically in the areas of reading, writing, and spelling support.
Recently, I was also able to learn the highly acclaimed Orton Gillingham Program. This multisensory approach, combined with the LIPS multisensory approach are my favorite tools for helping students who struggle to coordinate the visual and auditory skills involved in reading, writing and spelling.
As a tutor, I have been given an amazing opportunity to work with students one-on-one where I can create a personal, unique program to help students make progress as quickly as possible. This opportunity has been rewarding and fun. Please contact me if your child could benefit by this approach. I look forward to meeting you!
