Hi, I am Jessica.

I am a Special Education Major and a junior in college. I have also been an AVID tutor. I have experience tutoring in a variety of subjects. I have tutored in in Middle and High schools.

I enjoy English, Language Arts, and Math.

As an AVID tutor, I value teaching students how to come to answers on their own. I try to push students to get to the correct answer by asking them leading questions. I also encourage students to use their resources to come to the correct answer.

Proofreading

I have recently completed the coursework required to become specialized in teaching English as a special education teacher. I have both taught and tutored in writing concepts, including proofreading, to elementary, middle, and high school aged students. Phonics

As a Special Education student, student teaching in fall 2013, I have taken numerous classes in teaching phonics, reading, and writing. I have also tutored in this area with a program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). I believe in achievement through developing student needs by fostering their strengths. In phonics, for example, that may mean practicing reading using books the student enjoys.

Study Skills

I have been at a university for 4 years to become a Special Education teacher. I have learned a lot through my own experience and lectures about good study habits. I know a lot about learning styles and strategies for teaching students based on their specific needs. I believe that my success as a bachelor of arts student, tutor, and future teacher, qualifies me to tutor in the area of study skills.

Special Needs

I am a Special Education major. I have passed both the Praxis Elementary Content Test and PLACE Teacher licensure test. I am currently one semester away from student teaching. I have over 200 hours of experience working with students with disabilities. I have worked in a variety of settings, including an elementary school and high school setting. Also, I have 2 years of experience tutoring in high school and middle school settings.
