I have worked in many phases of business: from a phone receptionist to an office manager; from a courier to a systems consultant; from data entry to information technology manager. I have worked for large and small businesses. I have a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems with an emphasis in accounting. I understand how businesses work - especially small business - and know that although basic principles apply to all, every business is unique and has specific niches and needs.
I would be able to tutor you in procedures & systems for basic office set-up, accounting, computers, and information flow.
I am not a gourmet cook - I like to prepare simple, healthy, cost-effective meals. I love to bake. I have made hundreds of jars of canned fruits and vegetables, with jams being my favorite. I also have experience with freezing and drying foods. I have done the "month of meals" programs, and have learned to alter recipes to make them simpler and healthier while retaining the enjoyment & nourishment they provide. Let's cook up something new that you can enjoy for years to come!
I have three children who have very successfully completed grades K-6. I have helped them at home, tutored in the public school system, and home-schooled. I understand kids learn in many different ways and are motivated by many different things. I love nothing more than seeing a child who is struggling with a difficult concept experience the pride & joy of mastering that concept!
I have 3 children who have been very successful in school, even in areas that are not natural strengths. I have helped them at home, tutored in the public school system, and home-schooled. I understand kids learn in many different ways and are motivated by many different things. I love nothing more than seeing a child who is struggling with a difficult concept experience the pride & joy of mastering that concept!
I have a variety of experiences with ESL. I have had internationals live in my home who spoke little to no English. Through immersion, common experiences, lots of gestures, patience & diligent perseverance, they have learned to function well in the English language. I have learned a foreign language myself through an immersion experience. That experience makes me much more aware of the difficulties in not being able to adequately understand others and express myself - whether in speaking or in writing. I have done one-on-one language tutoring and am currently involved in a formal ESL course in my community as a volunteer tutor, helping small groups of people work through a formal curriculum. Additionally, I have helped international college students learn to successfully understand and participate in English literature classes and other classes where language barrier for even an advanced English language student makes it difficult to succeed. Teaching the techniques and "tricks" which I, as a native English speaker, use to succeed is fun, rewarding and profitable for the language learner.
Teaching computer skills - especially general computer skills - is one of my favorite things to do. I have a degree in Management Information Systems with a concentration in computer science. I use computers all day every day and find that understanding the basics is key to knowing what to do when something unexpected happens on the screen. I have used the Microsoft Windows software since it came out and have taught a wide variety of people how to turn their computer on, how to get around in it, how to do email, use the internet, set up a printer or network, organize their documents and files and use software programs. I believe in teaching you to do the specific skills you need and want to learn rather than overwhelming you with more information than you ever cared to know existed. I will teach you how to do it - and give you as much information into the "why" and "where" and "what for" as you want to know. Giving you the techniques, skills and shortcuts to make your computer efficient and effective for you is my goal.
Grammar and sentence structure is one of my strengths when it comes to writing. I can help with verb structure & tense, proper use of commas and other punctuation, run-on and incomplete sentences, repetitive use of words, weak & ineffective word choice, and writing strong paragraphs.
Networking - especially in a small business or home - is something in which I have experience & understanding. Setting up a new network, trouble-shooting an existing network, setting up your internet in your home so your family can access it wirelessly, connecting your computers to a common data source, etc... Give me a call. If it is over my head, I will let you know!
Quick Books is an excellent business accounting program. I have worked with all phases of it and can help with determining the correct version for your needs, installation, implementation, reporting, invoices, payables, receivables, payroll, etc. I have also been involved with beta-testing other web-based software to interact correctly with QuickBooks. Again, my philosophy is to help you with the specific areas in which you need help so that the software does for you and your business what you want it to do - given the parameters of the software.

Volleyball is one of my passions. I love the sport & I love to play it. I would be happy to help with basic skills, with understand the rules, scoring, etc. Drills, skill practice - I'm not a coach (coaching involves much more than just the skills & rules of the game), but I would love to work with you on the skills & game theory.
