Hello! My name is Marge L. I have a master's degree, and I currently teach sociology at community college. I offer a variety of assistance at competitive prices.

For English, I specialize in proper grammar and American English pronunciation. I also specialize in teaching adults.

Public speaking is the second most fearful thing most people experience. I can assist you with presentation skills to understand and help ease that fear and become an effective public speaker.
If you are currently in college, I can help you with your writing, English usage, and grammar skills. I am familiar with APA, MLA, and other formats.

If you need help with a specific paper, I offer separate rates for proofreading and for editing.
In hourly, in-person sessions, I will work with you in a one-on-one intensive learning forum to assist you in fulfilling your educational goals. I'm looking forward to meeting with you to explore all your talents and possibilities.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have been teaching ESL for three years as a private tutor. My specialties are American pronunciation and usage. I stress correct usage and grammar. Spelling, especially in English, is extremely important due to the confusion caused by synonyms and homophones. I can work with early beginners as well as with more advanced students.

Grammar

As a Sociology instructor, I insist students use proper grammar in the academic essays and papers they submit. As an ESL instructor, I must understand the rules of English grammar to ensure students learn correct English usage.

Literature

I have a Masters degree. As part of my education, I was required to study and understand classic and modern literature. I also use literature as a teaching tool in classes I teach.

Proofreading

I have been proofreading college papers, business reports, government grant requests, and other scholarly material for over twenty years.

Public Speaking

I have been speaking publicly for over twenty years as a professional, as well as a parent volunteer. I have spoken to prospective PTA audiences while representing the Colorado State PTA. I have presented information to Colorado state departments and city councils. As I am an Adjunct Instructor, I speak professionally every time I stand in front of my students in class. Although I enjoy public speaking, I realize how uncomfortable many people become when they stand in front of the public.

Reading

As a college instructor, I know the importance of knowing how to read and comprehend. Teaching students how to read is as important as teaching them what to read.

Vocabulary

An extensive working vocabulary is one aspect of success in our lives. As a college instructor with a Masters degree, I can help students build and master a vocabulary that will instill confidence.

Writing

As part of my Masters degree, I wrote and published a Masters thesis. I write daily as part of my teaching curriculum. I evaluate students' writing on a daily basis. Learning to write well is the second most important aspect of successful communication skills.
