I love working one-on-one with students and helping them perform at their best. That's why I tutor. I am a licensed English Language Arts teacher in Colorado with experience in the Denver Public Schools teaching English, History, and Social Studies for grades 9-12. I hold a Masters degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction for English Language Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder's School of Education and a Bachelors degree in English from Wesleyan University on the east coast. I have helped students-- including ESL learners-- from high school through graduate school to organize, execute, and polish writing projects. I have worked with students on study skills and organizational approaches to make their homework and school performance more successful. I am currently offering test prep for several standardized tests, including the ACT, SAT, and GRE.
In addition to my work as a classroom teacher and writing tutor, I have worked for and managed various nonprofit organizations, written for nonprofit newsletters and fundraising campaigns, and for the media. I have edited and managed a newswire for college newspapers, and I have researched and written technical reports on biological and ecological subjects.
As a private tutor, I know that you-- the student-- as well as your family are the clients, and I am interested in your goals for our work together and how to get you the help that will make the biggest difference for you. One-on-one and small group settings usually offer the best places to make real gains in your understanding and to own your new skills through focused practice and direct feedback from an experienced guide. Let's work together-- I look forward to hearing from you!
