Thank you for reviewing my profile. We may make a great team!
I graduated from Southwestern University in 1993 with a B.A., with a minor in Political Science and coursework in psychology. As a part of my university experience, I was chosen to study English and Political Science abroad at King's College in London, England. After graduation, I was accepted to the Graduate Program in English at Texas A&M University and awarded a teaching position. I taught Rhetoric and Composition and basic academic research and writing. Concurrently, I worked at the Writing Center, tutoring students from all disciplines. I enjoyed the challenge of guiding students through the writing process and the wide variety of projects. On a typical tutoring day, I helped undergraduate and graduates refine everything from basic literary analysis to dissertations. I graduated in 1995, with a Master's in English, with a minor in Linguistics and coursework in Political Science and Education. I also received my Secondary Teaching License.
I have quite a bit of teaching experience. I have taught English at the high school level, with an emphasis on literary criticism and academic research and writing. I have also taught Rhetoric and Composition at the community college level. My last teaching job was working at a private school as an Art and Computer teacher for grades K-8. I designed and implemented original curriculum for over 160 students.
In general, I favor an individualized approach that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student. My goal is for my students to walk away with increased confidence in their reading and writing skills, improved critical thinking and self-editing abilities, and a project they can be proud of.
I look forward to hearing from you!
