As a licensed elementary educator in the state of Colorado, I have proven my dedication to excellence by helping children close the achievement gap in both literacy and math. I love teaching children the strategies that will make math and literacy accessible, and have successfully helped even reluctant learners!

I am an experienced classroom educator and tutor. I taught first and second grade at Legacy Elementary in Frederick, Colorado and I have completed 21 credits towards a M.A. in Literacy Instruction from the University of Colorado. I have the background and skills to help young readers develop phonics, fluency and comprehension skills. Mendi Y., the Literacy Interventionist at Legacy Elementary, said about me, "She was able to isolate areas of weakness in her students and implement successful strategies to help these students close their gap in performance. In math, I ensure success by using a kinesthetic approach, strategy development, and authentic tasks. I teach students to reason mathematically using numbers, pictures, and words. I also help students build logic and function fluency with mathematical games.

Furthermore, I have proven my abilities with non-traditional learners and English Language Learners. I am bilingual in Spanish and English, and aside from academics, I have also coached skiing and swimming.

Dyslexia

I provide a structured, systematic, multisensory system for gaining phonological awareness. I coach dyslexic students in segmenting words into individual phonemes and blending phonemes together into words. I also emphasize rhyming and common English language word patterns. At the Diverse Learner's Conference in Denver, Sept. 2011, I developed some new techniques that I am currently using to tutor a dyslexia third grader and I am eager to use these new methods to help other children!
