As a licensed k-8 educator in the state of Colorado, I have proven my dedication to excellence by helping children close the achievement gap in both literacy and math. I love teaching children the strategies that will make math and literacy accessible, and have successfully helped even reluctant learners!
I am an experienced classroom educator and tutor. I taught first and second grade at Legacy Elementary in Frederick, Colorado and I have completed 15 credits towards a M.A. in Equitable Instruction from the University of Colorado. I emphasize multimodal learning and love to teach in a way that integrates subject areas with skill acquisition.
I have the background and skills to help young readers develop phonics, fluency and comprehension skills. Mendi Y., the Literacy Interventionist at Legacy Elementary, said, "(Hannah) was able to isolate areas of weakness in her students and implement successful strategies to help these students close their gap in performance. I saw this happen again and again and Miss D.'s room." I also provide older students with support in PC Applications, grammatical structure, and editing.
In math, I ensure success by using a kinesthetic approach, strategy development, and authentic tasks. I teach students to reason mathematically using numbers, pictures, and words. I also help students build logic and function fluency with mathematical games. I instruct older students in numeric definitions, properties, and procedures as they encounter more advanced topics.
Furthermore, I have proven my abilities with non-traditional learners and English Language Learners. I am bilingual in Spanish and English, and also enjoy instructing students in Spanish-language acquisition.
All lessons include a free parent consultation which may last up to 10 minutes after the session.
