Hi! My name is Amy and my emphasis is in reading and writing. I studied Creative Writing at the University of Washington so I'm an excellent pick for editing or proofreading your essays and stories. I also have experience in tutoring children in reading and writing, particularly with the use of phonics. I can help you if English is your second language and you're struggling to keep up with your classes. If your child has trouble focusing on his/her homework I can be there as a guide and a helper. If any of these fit your needs, please contact me. I'd love to help!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I was raised in a Christian family and have been personally reading and studying the Bible since I was in 8th grade. I grew up going to many Bible camps and retreats at least twice a year and when I reached high school, I started to attend an international semi-annual training where they would take a book of the Bible and expound on it for a week. Most recently, I was in a Bible School in Anaheim where I took many classes on the Bible.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a elementary school TA for 4th and 5th grades as well as kindergarten. I have a solid understand of how tutor elementary students in English, reading, writing and basic math.

Phonics

I studied Creative Writing at the University of Washington. I was taught phonics as a child by my mother. As I grew up, my mother tutored children and I would often help her by helping her students with reading. Most recently, I tutored a kindergartener who was told she wasn't going to pass kindergarten. This was mostly due to her lack of ability to read and even recognize all the letters. After a few months of teaching her using phonics, she was able to read words and sentences and continue on to 1st grade.

Swimming

I competitively swam through junior high and high school. Through the in-depth teaching of my coach, I have a strong knowledge of stroke technique.
