I focus on individual students and attempting to bring history, civics, or government alive for the student by bringing the most interesting aspects of the subject into my teaching. Especially with history, I like to focus on the interesting stories and personalities that help make the particular subject being studied both more memorable but also easier to put into a broader context. Unfortunately most history, civics, and government classes are focused on memorization of dates and locations, a model of education that unfortunately fails to provide context or meaning to the subjects. I work on providing that context and doing so in a way that makes it so students don't just remember the material, the understand it.
I hold a Masters Degree in History from Eastern Michigan University. I'm deeply passionate about my subjects, and I want to work to help you get the same level of passion as well as the understanding to really grasp your subject.
