My passion for teaching started 16 years ago. As a classroom teacher, I have been working with Kinder to 5th grade students. I have presented students with intentional instruction in all content areas according to student's ability and understanding in their learning. Data is an essential tool that I have employed during the school year to identify student’s needs, challenges and to have specific targets in order to reach academic goals.

I have participated in after school tutoring for reading and writing to ensure student success. I have also worked at a summer school with a group of students (20 students) with intentions of preparing them and teaching them skills they will encounter in their next grade. As a teacher, I take into consideration where each student will need additional support. Therefore, I plan and deliver my instruction to meet those needs and challenges.
I strongly believe that all children can learn when presented with appropriate and dedicated instruction. I truly enjoy working with children and seeing how I am able to support their confidence so that I can witness their success.

I love teaching and I am very effective in teaching balance literacy, phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension.

I hold myself accountable for my students' results. I am also able to develop strong relationships with parents and guardians in order to benefit and increase student learning.

I look forward to hearing from you and how we can plan to work together to increase student results.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I'm very familiar utilizing different medias for drawing such as pencil, water colors, acrylics and oils. I love and know how to draw different subjects like animals, landscapes, cartoons, human figure. Drawing can be very relaxing and creative. I have experience teaching young children to draw a specific object like a house by breaking it into steps. This way the student can understand each component to make a house, get a sense of dimensions or proportions, and obtain a final result at the end of the steps

Phonics

Working as a classroom teacher has given me the opportunity to participate in several professional development about phonics.
I consistently use phonics in my reading/writing instruction. I practice phonics in a group or one on one with read aloud, guided reading, share reading. To make practice fun and accessible to the child I create word charts, use alphabet cards, games (bingo, magnetic letters), puzzles of matching letters to pictures using beginning sound or final sound. My students are very successful readers and writers and truly enjoy and own their learning about phonics.

Reading

When tutoring Reading, Literature and Informational Text I support the student by building background knowledge prior of reading. Questions are crucial to support critical thinking.
My areas of focus with reading builds on the ability to draw inferences from text.
My student will be able to determine and identify text genre and have the ability to summarize as well as the ability to compare and contrast characters, events and to draw conclusions.
