Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a Colorado K-12 ESL endorsement. I taught 5th grade full-time (all subjects) from August, 1999- June, 2000 and 6th grade classes in January, 2001-June, 2001. Before that, I did a teaching practicum in a 6th grade language arts class for a semester and taught community classes to 1st and 3rd graders for 2 years. I'm a kind, caring teacher who works well with students of all ages.

Public Speaking

I taught speaking courses as part of my faculty position at the University of Denver's English language school. I prepared students to prepare and present presentations in their English and graduate business classes.

Study Skills

When I taught college classes, there were required study skills learning outcomes for all my courses. I also regularly include study skill-building into my high school English and Social Studies skills classes. I have thus had the opportunity to teach a variety of study skills, including time management, reading strategies, using graphic organizers, note-taking and test-taking strategies. I also taught a study skills class and sessions at Sylvan learning centers in 2001-2002 and as student academic adviser at the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1996.
