I have taught in public middle and high schools as a substitute teacher. Following the teacher's lesson plan I was not limited in the subjects that I taught. As a secondary science and math teacher in a Christian school, I taught Geometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus, Astronomy, Physics. I have tutored a high school age student and an adult wanting a career change in Chemistry. Having a minor in Biology I would be able to help in that subject also.
Tutoring is much more rewarding to me because I can focus on the specific needs of the student, staying on an area, teaching multiple ways, until the student understands it well. I like using a white board for teaching math and science. I am able to speak the concept as I draw it, so the student can follow along. I usually use the curriculum that the student has for classes, but can include other books and worksheets to go beyond that. Thinking critically is important to me, so I will always press the student to do just that in all their work.
