My approach to tutoring is that every student, whether in grade school or college, encounters a time when they need a little extra help to overcome a learning barrier. My method is to explain concepts in a variety of ways until the information comes to life for the student. There is never just one way to understand or convey a concept. I am a very visually based person and have had great success drawing out concepts. I know I have succeeded when the student is able to empower themselves though improved self-confidence with the very material that frustrated them in the past.

Vocabulary

Adding new words to a student’s existing vocabulary can seem daunting; yet, building a good vocabulary base is essential for standardized testing later in life. Having the proper study skill set, is what enables a student to learn and retain words.

Reading

Reading can be a great pleasure, but it requires certain skills. What makes successful readers, are the ones who pay close attention to the way each sentence works with the next to form paragraphs. They can identify the topic sentence of each paragraph and rephrase it as a question, which brings the supporting details to light.

Spanish

I have taken Spanish my entire life and I am proficient at speaking and writing. I have tutored mainly at the high school and collegiate levels one and two. I have a lot of experience with the Ven Conmigo textbook series and have lots of extra resources for any difficult areas in grammar and reading comprehension. There are many creative ways to memorize challenging vocabulary and hard grammatical rules, but with a little one on one time Spanish can be ma easier!

Elementary Math


Math during the elementary years is the most important. Ensuring that your student has simple math down early guarantees them a great academic pathway, especially in regards to standardized tests later. I believe that making math visual, helps the student envision math problems both visually and symbolically enabling them to solve problems quickly and easily.

Elementary Science

Science can be fun and creative at an early age. The subject caught my attention very early with a teacher who did fun demonstrations, while teaching us classic concepts. Sometimes students need help making a connection between the visual demonstration and the concrete concept. Concepts can be easily cleared by engaging the student in dialog and allowing them to make their own hypothesis about what the experiment really demonstrated.
