I enjoy teaching programming. The best way to learn a language is through a combination of writing programs and exploring the concepts and rules of the language. The hands-on part can involve trial and error, and I have the patience and experience to help you achieve competence in a language.

In addition to several years teaching adults in an associates degree program, I have worked for years as a software developer. My experience includes creating web applications, designing and developing databases, working on enterprise software systems, and developing mobile applications.

Corporate Training:
HTML, Java, SQL, Web Design

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Programming

I have a bachelor's degree with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Computer Science from Metropolitan State University. I currently work as a software developer, and have for the past five years, and for a total of about 7 years as a web or software developer. My other experience includes about 7 years of instructional design, and teaching computer programming and related technologies to adults in associate degree programs.

Computer Science

I have a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a minor in Computer Science from Metropolitan State University in Denver. Most of the courses I took toward the minor were core Computer Science classes that applied to the major, including computer science 1, 2, computer architecture and assembly language, and upper-division courses computer science 3, and Networking and Security. Additionally, I have several years experience as a programmer, developing software for small and large companies.

JavaScript

I have a bachelor's degree with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Computer Science from Metropolitan State University. I currently work as a software developer, working mostly in JavaScript/Html and PHP. My knowledge of Javascript includes a working knowledge of the core language, jQuery, and familiarity with other libraries.

Linux

I have at least three years total of experience working with Linux systems for software development - this includes setting up new instances of linux (Ubuntu, AWS images), the development stack (LAMP, other technologies), and the editing and source control environment (VIM, git, etc.) I have setup Linux machines, configured them, written software on them, and deployed the software for use.

Web Design

I have developed websites for many clients, from small to large corporations in the Denver area, as consultant and full time employee. My experience includes working in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, etc.) and Gimp, to create graphics, logos, and site templates. HTML, CSS, and Javascript are languages I use daily in my work.
