My name is Kristen. I have a degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. I just finished 2 years of prerequisites for medical school at Metropolitan State University of Denver. I am a certified tutor in both Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology. I have been tutoring at Metro's Student Academic Center for over a year. I really enjoy tutoring, especially Chemistry. I know that it can be a difficult subject for many students, and I really enjoy helping to break down the material in a way that is easy (and hopefully fun!!) to understand. I was also a TA for the Advanced Cadaver class at Metro, and I am the only tutor in the center certified to tutor Advanced Cadaver Anatomy and Advanced Medical Physiology. I try to implement different tutoring styles based on the student's learning style, such as relating topics to real life situations, or approaching problems from different perspectives as needed. I'm thankful for the opportunity that I have had to tutor students at Metro, and I look forward to continuing to tutor as I apply to my program over the next year.
As a pre-PT student, Anatomy is very important to me. It was one of my favorite classes at Metro. I took both Anatomy I, as well as the Advanced Cadaver class, and excelled in both of them. I was also invited to be a TA for the cadaver class, and it was a wonderful experience. This, as well as my experience tutoring the subject at the Student Academic Success center has given me the tools I need to help others excel in this subject as well.
Chemistry is by far my favorite subject to tutor. I took Chemistry 1 and 2 as well as Organic Chemistry at Metro and excelled in all three classes. My passion for helping fellow students in chemistry is what lead me to tutoring in the first place. I know that this a difficult subject for many students, and a lot of student rely on their math skills to get by without really understanding chemistry, which becomes difficult when they take the more advanced classes. I really enjoy helping students to really understand the chemistry aspect of the class, beyond the math.
I have taken both Advanced Physiology as well as Neurobiology at Metro. Both classes focus a great deal on the intricacies of the different bodily systems, particularly on action potentials, the mechanisms behind cell membrane potential, as well as how the systems function independently and as a whole. Both classes were taught with extreme detail, and prepared me to tutor Physiology on a much deeper level of understanding. I find the way the body functions to be fascinating, and I love sharing that interest with other students and helping them to understand the subjects as well.
