Hi! My name is Sarianna. I was born and raised in Colorado. I graduated Magna cum Laude in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I double majored in PSCI and Women and Gender Studies. I graduated in the top 15% of my class in both my majors.
I've done policy work and research in Israel, Washington D.C., and NYC. My work has even been included in reports presented to former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. I've presented papers at Princeton, Johns Hopkins, and Colorado Mountain College.
My approach to tutoring is integrative. Sometimes it is easy to get bogged down by papers and theory, so whatever you are frustrated with or want help understanding, I will work with you to come up with creative and fun approaches--because not everyone learns from just reading or sitting in a lecture hall.
I'm a huge fan of flash-cards, presentations, fun quizzes, coming up with songs (I've got a pretty catchy song about the American Presidents), and really just finding the best ways for you to learn the material you are struggling with.
I'm here to help you reach your goal of getting an A on your next paper, or just understanding what Alexis de Tocqueville actually means.
I'm also open to setting up sliding pay-scales for those that need help, but cannot afford my current hourly rate. My goal is to help students, not to have price be a determining factor in barring them from assistance.
I danced ballet for 15 years. I trained at Perry Mansfield Performing arts summer camp for 9 years, and had the opportunity to work/learn with teachers from Alvin Ailey, Jose Limon, Robert Battle, New York City Ballet, and many others.
In addition to that, I danced at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

My work is based in international politics, particularly Middle Eastern state development; however, I have a strong background in political theory and American political systems, both of which are required learning and understanding for PSCI students.
I have researched and worked in policy with organizations like FDD (Foundation for Defense of Democracy), LCHT (Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking) doing policy analysis and legislative reporting.
I have also worked on political campaigns for the 2005/2006 Maria Cantwell WA Campaign, volunteered with the DNC, and managed student campaigns for CU including political event planning for visiting international scholars, Take Back the Night campaigns, and other student run initiatives.
I graduated Magna cum Laude in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Organization is the name of my game, but learning what study tricks /methods work for you or your child can sometimes be hard, since not everyone remembers things just by reading them over again.
I believe the key to figuring out study skills is integrative:
(1) I identify how students learn. Do they like to sing (songs are a great way to remember dates, names, places, chemical or math formulas--I've even got a song for the quadratic formula!) Are they a visual learner--outlines, flashcards, etc., are all great ways to study.
(2) I go over time management. 50% of studying is learning how to appropriately manage your time--learning how to identify what you do know, what you don't feel comfortable on, and what you could work on, but aren't as worried about. Prioritizing your study needs.
(3) Coming up with a solid action plan. Often times being an effective studier is a mix of things, certain subjects you do better on studying alone on, while others you do better in study groups, playing games (e.g. test jeopardy). I work with students on how to adjust to different types of studying, for different subjects, in addition to coming up with effective ways of studying if say, they do better in a group, but they can't find a group to study with.
I believe every student has a unique way of processing information. I work with my students to come up with creative and efficient ways to feel confident that they are studying in the best way possible.
