Hi there, my name is Carl and I am well versed in Finance, Marketing, MS Excel, MS Office, and Entrepreneurship. What sets me apart from other tutors is my real world application of said subjects. I've worked as a financial underwriter assessing risks and profitability based off of key performance indicators at Cigna Corporation. I've also worked for Chipotle Mexican Grill Corporate doing real estate, project management, and statistical analysis. Currently, I am running a small start-up. I've secured funding from investors, I've managed processes and development teams, and I've validated our product through market research. From a purely educational stand point, I have a BS in Business Administration from the University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business with an emphasis in Marketing & Finance. My overall GPA was a 3.5.
What I can do for you:
Not only will I do my best to help you ace your class, I can offer you real life experience, advice, guidance, and finally possible connections to the job market when you're ready for a full time job. My methods are usually to walk a student through a process or a problem, then have the student try to replicate the process or answer said problem. Finally, I end with reviewing the answers and detailing why the answer is such. I am a very patient person and I will do my best to work with you until you understand the concept(s).
If you have any further questions, just ask!
I have a BS in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder - Leeds School of Business with an emphasis in Marketing. Outside of purely education, I used to be a market research analyst for Covidien Corporation. During my time at Covidien, we used normal distribution, standard deviation, variance, and compound annual growth rates to calculate key statistics. On occasion, we also used Z-Test & Hypothesis testing. I've also built and implemented marketing strategies for a small start-up company. I personally helped design all 4 "P's" of marketing (Price, Product, Place, Promotions). We took into account primary and secondary research when building the pricing schedule and product features. One important aspect about marketing that I try to teach my students is that a solid marketing plan needs to include qualitative and/or quantitative goals and metrics. We need some way to track and measure the success or ROI of our marketing strategies. If you have any further questions, please ask!
My first qualification for tutoring students about Microsoft Windows operating system is my current role as project manager for web application development. My job is to manage the workflow between Designers (people who design the user interface of applications) and the Developers (people who actually take those designs and code them and bring them to life). To be successful in my role, it's important to understand the requirements and relative functions of the application. Microsoft Windows is one large application and a very powerful tool as an operating system. I've worked with Microsoft Windows my entire life, starting with Windows XP all the way to Windows 8.1. I know the framework of Windows and I know how to navigate the system.
As my student, I will teach you how to properly organize your files on your Hard Drive, I'll teach you how to manage your RAM (memory) so that your operating system will run faster and more efficiently, I will teach you the difference between SSD and HDD and why you should care, and I'll teach you how to pull code / files from repositories (commit, pull, push). This is just a small scale of possibilities to learn in Microsoft Windows and I promise to help you master this operating system.
When I was in high school, I attended the IB (International Baccalaureate) program at Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Colorado. The IB program is a rigorous academic adventure with similar qualities to college in high school. Post IB program, I walked away with 30 college credits (more than 2 semesters worth) and a weighted GPA of 4.0. After high school, I went on to double major in Finance & Marketing from the Leeds School of Business and the University of Colorado - Boulder. Before I graduated, I already had a job lined up doing financial underwriting for a Fortune 100 company.
The reason I mention the IB program is because I've been through the rigorous academic process and I know what it takes to be successful. A large portion of enhancing your study skills means time management and motivation. It's about trying to create processes and schedules to work more efficiently. My first step is to evaluate your memory and visual organization skills. Once we've identified a base, I will help you improve your ability to digest and understand information.
As my student, I will teach you time management, I'll help create processes to ensure you are working efficiently rather than doubling your work. I'll teach you successful methods for test preparation such as how to effectively takes notes in class and how to utilize those notes in a relevant way for assignments or exams. I've mentored many students in high school and college and I will do my best to help you.
