I am a retired electrical/nuclear engineer searching for ways to help young people succeed in education. My specialties are math at any level and physics. I have tutored before at the high school level, both as a volunteer and for pay. My tutoring method is to try to find a level of understanding and to build from there to the level desired by the student. I stick to the material desired by the student. I will try to show the student the method, but will let the student work out the problems. often, I present additional problems to solve to ensure the student has the grasp of the subject matter. I will always be positive with the student.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Have had extensive experience tutoring in verbal and math areas at the high school level, including SAT/ACT preparations. I teach time management to make sure the student does not get bogged down rather than moving on to achieve the highest scores and to look for the underlying principle in each problem. The key to successful ACT/SAT scores is to see the problem, then use known skills to solve the problem.

My hobby is solving math problems. I go back to my college texts and work problems just for fun. I have taught math in tutoring settings to several high school students. Most of the new students were acquired through word of mouth and referrals. I have qualified, by exam in all math subjects, up to calculus. I have the technical skills, patience, and tutoring experience to tutor math at any level. I have tutored middle schools students through a volunteer program in Washington, DC.

I am an electrical/nuclear engineer. Both of these disciplines require deep knowledge of differential equations to solve high level circuit and reactor kinetics and physics problems. This includes not only introductory differential equation knowledge, but also, more advanced knowledge, such as, Bessel functions and LeGendre polynomials. I still refer to my advanced mathematics college text to solve these types of problems for fun.

I have an electrical engineering degree from Cornell University. I have worked on electrical machines and instrumentation and controls design for the Navy Nuclear propulsion program for over forty years. I have managed many new design projects.
