I love math. For this reason I left a successful career of more than twenty years to study mathematics. After receiving a degree in mathematics, I am continuing on towards a PhD in applied mathematics. While studying as an undergraduate I became a tutor for the mathematics department. This allowed me to bring my love of math to others.
Helping others with math became as rewarding as my own studies.
As a department tutor I was able to help students who were from many backgrounds, not just math majors. From this I've learned that students look at math from many perspectives and learn in many ways. Since everyone learns math differently, my approach to teaching is unique to each student. I believe that with effort and patience, anyone can become proficient in math.
I have tutored students in math from pre-algebra through to partial differential equations. This includes algebra, trigonometry, the calculus sequence, finite math and business calculus.
I have also worked as test evaluator for standardized test from many states around the country. This is one reason that am tutoring. Scoring the responses on these test has been eye opening, to say the least. Although discouraged by this, I do feel that this has given me a unique perspective on common problem areas for students.
I am very flexible when it comes to time and location of sessions. Although I prefer 24 hours notice on cancellations, I can be flexible about this as well.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you bring out the mathematician that is in everyone.
