Hi, I'm Leslie! I am a mathematics and writing tutor with three years of experience teaching and tutoring.

I spent two years teaching mathematics and physics at a secondary school in rural Tanzania. Because of that experience, I am able to work with students who are far behind in their school curriculum or have trouble grasping the material. I am very passionate about math and I believe that everyone can "get it." I have my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and am now a grad student at DU.

I can help students with more than just math! I am very good with the reading/writing portions of standardized tests, such as the SAT and GRE. I can help students with reading comprehension and essay writing. I enjoy teaching writing skills, including proper grammar, punctuation, and the general structure of papers and essays.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Feel free to inquire about group rates and rates for disadvantaged students.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

As a teacher and a tutor, it is my job to pass on knowledge of the subject as well as good study skills and habits. I always encourage my students to be organized and I can teach them how to plan their year, month, and daily activities so that they have enough time to get all of their work done. I can also teach a student how to set long and short term goals for school and personal life.

Very Easy to Talk Out Problems and Concerns! — I've enjoyed our sessions and my tutor Leslie has given me some great advice, as I am trying to play catch-up on some MAT testing and had/have little time to prepare. We've noticed improvement from the first session to second, and with recommendations from her, are preparing to review independent studying/practice tests for ways to identify tricks and strategies to help me get the best score I can ...
