I have taught for many years and have cherished my time within the classroom. I love greeting my students each day at my classroom door and welcoming them in to a day filled with adventure. Each student brings their own personality, strengths and weaknesses. My job is to make each individual feel comfortable to ask questions, discover how they learn best, become a little bit more of the person they will ultimately become and most importantly, walk out of my classroom more confident and ready to come back again.

Tutoring is a completely different entity and one that I find is my true passion. Throughout my days in the classroom, I would find myself constantly feeling guilty for not giving one or more students more of my time, more of my smiles and more of my encouragement. I had a fixed amount of time with over 150 students each day that had 150 different backgrounds, personalities and learning styles that I needed to accommodate.

I started tutoring very early on in my career and have never been able to give it up. The ability to focus all my energy on one student at a time, connect with that child and learn their goals, insecurities and all they are carrying in their 'backpack', besides their homework, is truly what makes me my happiest. Each child teaches me more about myself and how I can ultimately better help those in the future.

My job is to find how your child learns best, teach them 'real-life' processes, encourage them and remind them how awesome they are. So when they enter their classrooms the following day, they have more confidence in who they are, how they learn and how to accomplish their goals.

I have an Elementary Education degree (K-9) from Eastern Illinois University, have taught 5-8th grade for 7 years in IL, and currently hold a Colorado Professional Teacher License in grades K-6.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an Elementary Education degree (K-9) from Eastern Illinois University, taught 5-8th grade for 7 years in IL and currently hold a Colorado Professional Teacher License in grades K-6.

Phonics

I have taught 5th-8th grade Math & Spanish for 7 years. I have tutored students in all elementary classes - focusing on Reading, Writing, Spanish and Mathematics for over 12 years. I have studied phonics in both Spanish and English to better understand and teach each language.

Study Skills

I taught in the classroom for 7 years and have been tutoring for over 12. Study skills are interwoven throughout each session or class. My goal is to find what ways work best for each student. These essentially build self-confidence and overall improvement.

Swimming

I swam from the age of 9 through college. I was co-captain of the Eastern Illinois University Women's swim team.

I have done private swim lessons for over 10 years (ages 3 - adults).

Wonderful 5th grade math tutor, very engaging and patient. — My 5th grade son has been struggling in math and gets frustrated easily. Ms. NelliRose is so sweet and patient with him on math problems. She makes him laugh and they get along so great. They work well together and she has a way to encourage him and teach him very effectively. He says he is going to have an awesome year because of the tutoring this summer. I highly recommend NelliRose for tutoring ...
