I am a certified K-12 Visual Arts educator. I have been a visual arts teacher at a multi-lingual elementary school in North Denver for 11 years. My school recently became a International Baccalaureate candidate school, which I find to be an incredibly exciting teaching experience, full of internationally-minded lessons. I have also taught at a high school, substituted in a middle school, and coached tennis at a high school in Wisconsin.
Last year, I finished a graduate degree in TEFL, which I've used to improve my lessons for not only my English language learners, but for all of my students. With an ever growing Latino population and a country full of immigrants, I feel I am prepared for the future of education.
I am a very literate and articulate individual, have excellent people skills, and love learning and teaching! My classroom is filled with many opportunities for success. Two years ago, I started teaching using a program called TAB, or teaching for artistic behaviors, based on the practice and research of a Massachusetts educator. Essentially, I teach a studio style, where students are introduced to different artists and mediums, and make choices based on their interactions with that knowledge to make their own artistic choices. I create independent artists every day...it is quite rewarding!
