Hello there, my name is Alysa and I am currently an AmeriCorps member for the United Way Reading Corps; AmeriCorps is like the domesticated Peace Corps. I have been trained to tutor children in Letter Sound recognition, Blending Words, Fluency, Comprehension, Phonics, and Decoding Strategies when trying to learn or improve reading skills. I work at Warder Elementary and have a case load of kids who I see 20 minutes a day and work with them on different reading interventions. I am a caring and dedicated to helping kids grow and flourish in school.
I have my degree in Physical Education and Health Promotions. I am currently the nutrition educator for nonprofit called Cooking Matters. I am also experienced in teaching kids nutrition and other health related topics. I also have a degree that has taught me biomechanics, and Exercise / Physical Science. Along with sciences I can teach several sports; volleyball, swimming, and soccer are the sports I know I can effectively teach.
I love working with kids; last year I worked for the Boys and Girls Club as an art teacher. There I also helped kids with their homework every day after school. As you can see I am well rounded in multiple areas. I have an upbeat attitude and strongly believe that positive reinforcement shows the best results. I always put in extra work when tutoring kids and will put together lessons that have games, and rewards to make learning fun!
I am Flexible in my hourly rate, I love helping and I would always be willing to tutor for a much cheaper rate, because I believe all kids should be able to receive help, even if there is financial struggles.
