I will teach you how to use academic tools, study efficiently, and organize time to get the most out of your schooling experience. With this knowledge you will be able to tackle any tough subject that comes your way. I do not approach tutoring as a chance to give someone all the answers, rather I work hard to help the individual learn how to find the answers for him/herself. (Give the student a fishing pole rather than a fish...) In addition to providing guidance on specific problems and questions, I teach my students how to do their own research online, efficiently use textbooks, proof their own work, and learn from their mistakes.

I am adept in all areas of K-12 curricula, to include the maths and sciences. College level courses that I am most specialized in would include Psychology and Research Writing (to include Annotated Bibliographies, Works Cited pages, research techniques, etc), and I am very good with any sort of reading, writing, grammar, etc.

I am the oldest of five home schooled children and have years of experience both learning and teaching. I received my high school diploma and Associates Degree (both with a 3.9 GPA) at the age of 17 and have just recently graduated from University of California San Diego with a BA in Psychology and a 3.85 GPA. Throughout all of my schooling experiences I have always been interested and involved in teaching others, whether it was my younger siblings or my fellow college students.

I originally entered college with the goal of becoming an Elementary School teacher but changed my major to Psychology with the goal of eventually getting a Doctorate in School Psychology. Teaching and helping others is something that I have always excelled at and loved and I hope to be able to share that with you.

Algebra 1

Math is often the scariest subject for a student to dive into and I can take the anxiety out of the process. I teach easy memorization techniques for formulas, take time to explain how and why formulas and equations are set up the way they are, and encourage my student to practice, practice, practice! Often times it will take many tries before a mathematical concept will "click" and I have the patience and tenacity to find the right way to make that happen for my student. I look forward to working with you!

Bible Studies

I grew up very active in church (Awana student for 10 years, Awana leader for 3 years, Vacation Bible School leader for 3 years) and was homeschooled with Christian curriculum. I can teach books of the Bible, Bible stories and characters, verse memorization, study techniques, concordance use, dictionary use, original Hebrew and Greek research, theology, history, and even get into the nitty gritty discussions about issues such as the end times, predestination, spiritual gifts, Old vs. New Testament laws and traditions, etc. I naturally have my own views about all of these theological issues but my goal is to teach my student how to find answers for themself through accurate and diligent study of the Word.

Elementary (K-6th)

I originally entered college majoring in Elementary Education and have taken several classes on techniques for teaching younger children. I then changed my major to Psychology with the goal of becoming a School or Educational Psychologist and have taken multiple classes on Child Development, Parenting, Adolescence, and even Behavior Modification (positive/negative reinforcement, conditioning, habit formation, etc.). Not only do I have the intellectual ability to train your child in any subject he or she is struggling with, I have the compassion, patience, and understanding that are essential for making a permanent impact in a child's learning and habits.

Psychology

Graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of California, San Diego with Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Reading

Reading has been one of my greatest joys since early childhood and I am passionate about helping others capture that same joy, or at the very least, attain confidence in their own reading endeavors. Using a variety of tools and techniques, along with LOTS of practice, I can partner with anyone in need of some extra help with their reading skills.

Study Skills

Study skills are perhaps the most important skills to have for achieving success in school. Difficulty in any subject can be overcome if one simply knows the correct way to study the material and allocate one's time. I teach my student how to consolidate information, find key words, phrases, and definitions, and use their textbook efficiently through use of highlighting, effective reading practices, and review. I teach useful heuristics (memorization shortcuts), good note taking, and organization and review of notes. I also teach different studying techniques based on the type of test that is going to be taken (multiple choice, short answer, essay, etc). I teach my students about proper care of oneself during study time, the best environment for studying, and when to STOP studying and trust that you have done enough. Studying does not need to be a panic inducing nightmare and it is possible to walk into a very scary test and feel calm, collected, and prepared.
