I have had over 25 years experience in K-12, Community College and University (Cleveland State) teaching English as a Second Language. During this time, I have been active in TESOL, our professional organization, by giving workshops and lectures throughout the United States. At ELS Cleveland on the Case Western Reserve University campus, I taught all levels of ESL as well as one-on-one English for Specific Purposes for professionals visiting Cleveland for up to three weeks at a time. I designed these sessions in business, medicine, law, science and technology. I have also taught regular classes in English for aviation, test taking, survival English, and research techniques in addition to the 9 level program. At Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio, I started the first ESL program and also designed teacher workshops for neighboring communities. At Cleveland State University, I taught the TESOL accreditation course for teachers who wanted to work abroad.
My philosophy is to be the facilitator who helps a student reach his/her specific goals. Recently, I have worked with Skype and internet teaching as well as working with my own employees (Spanish speakers) who wanted to become US Citizens and/or be proficient in landscaping and housekeeping. It is important for students to become comfortable with US culture and have fun while learning.
