I have been an educator for over 13 years, teaching all core subjects (math, reading, writing, skills, social studies and science- K-6) I have had many wonderful opportunities to work with students as their primary teacher, their intervention teacher, or their private tutor. I am able to recognize that we all have individual hurdles that we face but finding the best way that each of us must approach that hurdle and making it over in our own way is the key to success.
Not everyone learns the same way or processes information the same way, and I feel that knowing my students and really seeing where they are getting tripped up in order to help them understand is a skill I possess. My approach to tutoring is helping students use questioning as a way to understand and become critical thinkers and problem solvers. I believe in self-discovery with guidance and support. Students should take responsibility for their own knowledge and learning by asking questions such as, why am I getting the incorrect answer? Why am I getting the correct answer? Will this approach work for all problems? How can I make learning fun, and what do I need to know to be able to get over the hurdle?
I consider myself a learner as well, always growing my knowledge. I don't claim to know all of the answers, but I know as your tutor I will help teach you, guide you, and support you so that you can be successful and grow as a learner as well. I look forward to such opportunities!
