American History
I enjoy American History as the stories told of our Heritage through a variety of resources and helping you connect to history within your own life to bring better connections and memory!!
Bible Studies
I earned a Bible Study Minor during my studies at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado, in 1991. I've taught Bible to elementary students at a private Christian School in 1991 and have participated in several Bible Studies in a small group setting throughout the years since my graduation.
Elementary (K-6th)
Hi! My experience in teaching Elementary subjects has taken a vast trip through private, public, homeschooled, and tutoring settings for 20 years! Creative solutions is what I pride myself on in working with you in all levels of Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Spelling, Computer, Music, Projects with resources that stay with you in-between our learning sessions together. I hope to work with you soon!
English
Ever since I can remember, my mom would correct our English grammar and use big vocabulary which naturally expanded my ability in Writing. Growing up around a poet and a writer helped me to grow to love the English language for all its uses and I so enjoy helping others do the same. I started coming into my own quickly working as a TA--Teacher's Assistant in writing in college-editing, grading, and assisting students to improve their writing skills for all subjects. I look forward to sharing my passion for writing and inspiring you to learn and grow in this vital arena!
Flute
I have played the flute for 40 years now and it has been a wonderful passion for me to learn and share music! Teaching flute students has been a real pleasure and an eye-opener to how music can help teach you focus and creativity and enjoyment in learning in all other subjects, especially math, and becoming a life-long appreciator of the arts. I pride myself in giving you a positive, patient, private environment to pick up a flute for the first time or to develop more flair with playing the flute for yourself in many settings. I've enjoyed being an integral part of bands, small groups, solos, duets, orchestras and even pit bands for theater shows throughout my career as a musician since 4th grade! I hope we connect soon and enjoy playing the flute together in the near future.
Phonics
My experience in teaching to read through phonics has been in combination with a whole language model that incorporates sounds within words, appropriate age-level reading materials and pieces, and with the help of technology programs, as available. I find that having you as the student help choose pieces that interest you and keep your attention, you are more motivated to learn the keys to unlock your success to reading with confidence!
Study Skills
Since I took a class in study skills in the 4th grade, I have put my organizational skills to great use within my studies throughout my formal educational years and beyond. I've also had the privilege of being trained in teaching Study Skills as a certified subject to several students during my teaching time at Sylvan Learning Centers.
Tennis
I am a certified tennis teacher through the United States Tennis Association and have taught classes under their instruction for 3 years. I was also a college team tennis player with Colorado Christian University for my junior and senior years. I then taught tennis through the Denver Parks and Recreation Citywide program for a summer as an instructor at Bible Park for students from 5-12 years old. I have enjoyed playing tennis for over 20 years in numerous settings.
Theatre
My love of musical theater, drama, and all things stage started at a very young age when my parents took me into NYC for a matinee. Since I enjoyed taking tap, ballet, and jazz since the wee age of 5, I was immediately enthralled with all performance arts and was inspired to hit the stage running.
First, with dance recitals, then singing impromptu in our living room and for guests, and my 1st theatrical production of Tom Sawyer, getting to play the leading lady.
I have enjoyed sharing my passion of theater with students teaching the basics of theater, acting, performance, as an asst. and director of plays since high school and most recently enjoyed putting on theatrical performances with students up to 30 students at a time!
Not only do I love to perform and practice my craft but also enjoy seeing my students grow and thrive in a supportive and encouraging environment to see their own success! :)
Voice (Music)
I've so enjoyed singing since I was a tot - it came so naturally as a youngster. I progressed into church choirs, solos, NJ All-County, Regional, and State Choir and have used all my singing happily in musical theater and daily! :) If you love to sing, I can join you in growing to take yourself as far as you want!
